Spray grease...eg Carlube White spray grease, very regularly, keeps my Echo Longreach in particular from locking up, which it invariably does if I neglect to do so. I assume you are talking about blades rather than gear.
Yes blades.
So, grease works ok on Blades ? Imagined it would 'gum' up with debris/dust
I use copper grease in aerosol form. To be honest mainly because i have a load of it handy
WD all the way for me Gary. Dont think it would matter much what you used, its going to get brushed off very quickly with the work. I just keep putting it on every 5 minutes of cutting, when cutting leylandii especially.
Never gums up on me. And I reckon you wouldn't need to put it on as often as WD40...every couple of refuels. Mind you we haven't seen dust in Northern Ireland for about seven years!
I use WD40 when out and about, and at the end of a job, if its gummed up a wire brush to get the worst of it off then wd40.
Every other week or so, I run them at full revs under a gently running tap for 20-30 seconds, then brush them off - I then brush on old lawnmower oil with a paintbrush and leave them to sit on a tray for the weekend.
Keeps everything in great order so far!
cant beat good old WD40!
Ok, ok...a bulk order of WD40 seems to be the order of the day....
Thanks guys ;-)
I Use graphite powder. Works well for me plus it's cheap and dry so it doesn't gunk up.
I also carry a can of wd 40 for use in the wet.
I use machine slideway oil. Does a good job and i was given a couple of 20L drums - bargain.
