One of the best marketing tools a business owner can use is the humble newsletter.
Not everyone has time or inclination to log in to the forum or visit the site every day but rely, instead, on hints to what is the freshest and most interesting content of the week.
Building an email list of willing readers as a quick and efficient way to send out a message for almost instant engagement.
I thought you might be interested in a few stats about last Saturday's newsletter: the link is here if you have not read it yet: http://mad.ly/5c53e3
This week's stats:
- There are 2,668 people on the newsletter list
- 97 emails bounced this week
- 2,570 emails were accepted
- 598 newsletters have been opened so far (this will rise to about 700 by the week end)
- 1 person un-subscribed from the newsletter
Why, you might ask, are there only 2,668 people on the newsletter list when there are 3,278 members of the site?
Over the years, some email clients will automatically throw newsletters into a spam folder. Some LJN members might not even realise that there is a weekly newsletter.
Also, MadMimi our newsletter provider, will remove email accounts that could be spam. Typically an email address appended with info, sales, marketing, for example, can be thrown out.
Again LJN members might not realise that they've been removed from the list. There's nothing we can do from this side to rectify it as any action to be part of the newsletter list must be actioned by the user. We add new members to the list automatically when they sign up to LJN but it doesn't necessarily mean that emails will not bounce.
A personal email address or a personalised business email address works best.

Considering the fine weather over last weekend, these are pretty good numbers. From what I understand, 21% is a normal opening rate for our industry sector. LJN consistently exceeds 25%, especially in the months of shorter day length.
