  • OMG!! I've been doing it wrong all these years! I'm sure if I do it the way shown in the video, it will generate me far more work...(at the same house, doing the same job, again and again and...!)
  • Dry mix is useless you may as well just use sand and save the money on cement. It must be thoroughly mixed with water for the cement to cure properly, it can be semi dry but not just totally dry.

Recommending using dabs is really bad. I have just lifted and re-laid a biggish sandstone patio because it was laid on dabs 4 years ago and can never be repointed as its just air underneath.

The dry mix pointing is also a total fail and wont last more than a year or two.

These idiots make these guides so that people think 'yea thats easy enough i'll have a go at that' and they can peddle their products. Its a disgrace especially when its not that much harder to do it right.

  • needs wacker, stihl saw full slab of wet cement and pointing on edges of path to stop it collapsing as its dodgy lol..

  • Oh my word!!!!
  • they have the same sort of thing in leaflet form as well.. i have even had people question my techniques based upon the knowledge gained from them reading said leaflet,

  • Actually i have just watched the video! its shocking in comparison to the leaflet

  • That's awful. I don't get how they can give advice like that. I get they have to make it easy for the diy market but standards have to be kept. I spoze though in the long run it means more work for the pros when the day market has had enough of their own work falling apart.
  • must....stop....laughing....must.....stop....and breath!

no less than I would expect from that place. you see no different on things like gardeners world or most of the programs on discovery shed. then people wonder why you charge so much to actually do it properly. b and q have a similar video as well as I recall.

I wonder if they do it out of ignorance or the fact that if people actually worked out the quantities of materials they need, they wouldn't bother so wouldn't buy it from these places

That is a shocking video in every way how not to do it right. It's shameful and should be shamed by pro's across the board. They must know that's 'dodgy advice', surely??.

Thermo - as an aside - I noticed Wickes plywood cut to 1110mm at £17.98 a sheet. If you bought 100% more, i.e. 2220mm it is £24.98. Wickes counting on the fact the majority of DIY'ers won't have the capability of shifting large sheets in one go......

    Cheers, Eugene

When clients are lead to believe it is "that easy" to lay and requires few specialist skills and tools, is it no wonder they query/baulk at the true costs when a 'professional' quotes.

Wickes states in it's advertising : "It's got our name on it" ........ glad it's not got my name on it !

It is situations like this that helps limit the industry's ability to charge a fair price for landscaping skills.
