i will start it of with mine = bleeding heart

my reason:

it was the very first plant i ever looked at (properly) it was on my first day as a landscape gardeners aprentice when i was 14, i showed up for my first day and was about to knock on the bosses door when i saw this plant in his front garden, for about 10 minuets i was just stearing at it untill he opend his door and when he did the words just seemed to roll out of his mouth Dicentra spectabilis, this was also the very first latin name i ever learnt and from that day sparked a mass thirst for knowlege and a huge respect for the plants around me as i never looked at any flowering or non-flowering plant the same way,

 even to this day

so ive done me now what about you guys (even if your a hard landscaper im sure you have one)

  • Good Choice, I love them too, - very hard to pick just one, and my favs change all the time, but as a family I love Clematis

3314625927?profile=originalthis one is Early sensation, and I use it for ground cover rather than climbing.

As a name, I love Opiopogon planiscapus nigrescens

  • Well, being a lover of Autumn, it has to be Acer griseum (Paperbark Maple) closely followed by Liquidambar styraciflua

Acer grisium -  green leaves in the boring Summer.  Comes alight in Autumn going through orange then red, stunning!  Then through Winter beautiful peeling bark through Winter sunlight.  Truly a 12 months a year plant?

Liquidambar styracilfua - Maple-like green leaves, turning stunning Autumn colours, and hanging on in our old garden till Boxing Day.  Beautiful "corky bark" another year round plant.

Plants have to "work" 12 months a year for us to win garden space.

Could go on Prunus serrula Tibetica, Cornus kousa et all.

  • LOL nice plant selection guys!

  • Tillandsias (air plants) some amazing plants within this species, both the flowers and foliage so many interesting shapes...very versatile little buggers as well. Also Jasminum officinale I've have a couple of large gardens and managed to grow some pretty substantial plants love the effect of it climbing walls and the smell on a warm still night.
  • Prunus incisa 'Kojo No Mai'. Great all year round interest from the light pink blooms, dark green sereated leaves, firey autumn colour, and the contorted zig zag stems. Currently my number one plant.
  • I'm a fan of Ligularia 'The Rocket', grows in clay in total shade quite happily and looks architecturally stunning
