If you need a permeable sub base then a type 3 base should be used, if not just go for type 1.
Is the sub base needed to make the drive suds compliant?
In the past we have used a relatively clean 40mm crush to make a semi permeable sub base for gravel grids, in the end we made the base almost 300 deep though. Have a look around and see what 20-40mm aggregate you can get as long as it has minimal to no fines you will be fine, just make sure its compacted properly and topped off with a geotextile fabric.
You could try Day Aggregates they can usually supply 10 ton loads of pretty much any type of aggregate you want. Day Aggregates 0845 0654 655
Thanks for your responses. I've tried Day Aggregates but their minimum drop is 10 tonnes. I only need around 5 tonnes.
I managed to find some helpful advice from Bexley sand and Aggregate. I'm going to get 2 tons of 40mm and 3 tons of 20mm and hopefully that will do the job
The other option is to talk them down on price.
Pay there haulage cost and only 5T of aggregate that way it is still worth there while and you get the product that you need.
Where is your London location as our local guys are very amenable.
Haven't used the paver's are they permeable ? If so then surely open graded MOT should be used, Try Loveday in Hemel Hampstead for north and west London, failing that try lafarge aggregates
