  • Ta Phil!

  • Can someone clarify for me, I have looked in the past I decided that I didn't needs. Licence for my business, I basically only remove grass cutting bushes turf sod etc... Has the law changed regarding this and I now need to be licensed ?
  • Hi Craig,

It's as simple as if you remove any waste from a commercial site and transport it, you need a license. It's now free if you only carry green waste, so why not get it?

The site you take waste to should be asking for your license number as well, if they are an official waste site of course!

As from 2014 all businesses need to be registered through Enironment Agency

Further information can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/waste-carrier-or-broker-registration

There are two tiers upper and lower if your just doing garden waste you need to register for the lower tier  (there is no cost for the lower tier although you must register) although if your doing fencing etc and disposing of this an upper tier registration is needed at a cost of £154 for 3 years

  • Thanks all, just done that online, was nice and simple if that's all that was required. I searched online the other day and could only find one costing £150 odd. Good result
  • SEPA dont do online application in Scotland and from memory we pay £300 every 3 years (as we do fencing and will sometimes remove spoil/rubble from small jobs to skip).
  • If you keep waste at your premises overnight, and/or do any sorting of waste, you may need an extended licence, or as we did get an exemption certificate as it is so infrequent but didnt want to be caught out.
  • hi don't want to seem dense but when you refer to a licence, is that the same as being registered?
