Van Storage

Evening,

I have searched through the forum and have found some great posts about van storage ideas but most of the photos have been removed. I just feel like I'm wasting space and carrying more than I need to!! I hear Paul has a superbly kitted out van but who else has something very organised?

Like somewhere to put strimmer or long reach hedge trimmer other the floor!

Hi mate, I screwed some big hooks to the roof of my van, strummer and hedge cutter sit up there bungee corded in. Ladder on the side of the van and racking behind the bulkhead for hand tools fuels etc, I'm happy with it!
  • I fitted shelving down one side then placed wooden spars across the top of the van onto the ply lining on the other side. I purchased some large screw in hooks from B&Q. The biggest problem with your strimmer is the bull handles, I originally placed mine on the spars with bungee and the handles downwards so it stores closer to the roof, however over time I noticed that the fuel was leaking out onto the stuff below. I now have them stored with Bull handles up which reduces space a bit. The spars are about 10" off the van roof so that allows me to also store rakes and brushes on top of spars.
  • After a GREAT deal of thought and head scratching this is the option I have gone with (see attached images).

The boxes are large enough to take hedge cutters, chainsaws, kombi engines, fuel cans as well as other gardening tools. It means I can fill the back with rubbish and not worry about damaging or losing tools. Equally it's not fixed or nailed in so when the occasion arises that I need the van empty it can be taken out.

You'll see I have modified it and cut out the top section. I have built a metal frame which it sits on this means I can fit two Honda's underneath and there is less wasted space above mowers in the van. Sorry can't find a photo of this on my laptop, if you'd like one just say and I'll take one tomorrow.

  • Thats different! at the moment I have a 1.2m rack on either side. one up front on the OS and one in the middle NS. Obvs the OS one is much deeper than the NS one. I only want to keep the NS where it is because its got the hand sink where i like it along with other hygiene bits!

I did think of having a super rack against the bullhead with enough room to get in the side door still and do it that way! still have all the hygiene stuff there along with the rest of the stuff. Giving more room for everything else in the van. including both mowers and all waste!

  • This is how I have mine racked. MWB transit, medium roof.

    2 mowers in side door
Strimmers on drivers side on hooks.
    Trimmer on bulkhead.
Pole machines on top of shelves on passenger side. Ladder strapped up to roof along with 6 tubes for rakes, hoes.
Chainsaw in shelves on passenger side, fuel on floor at bottom of shelves.

Waste bags go in back door or on trailer. Set up this way I don't need to tow the trailer very often as I can transfer bags of dryish waste from inside to the trailer at home.

I can't imagine setting up the van any other way.

  • Very similar to mine Dan, although mines a FWD so the floor is slighlty lower and no step at side door. I'm going to juggle a few things around this winter having replaced a few tools that don't fit quite as well as they did. Any photos of it full of tools?

  • I fitted a false bulkhead in my vivaro, which allows the storage of spades/forks behind it, allows tools to be clipped to it. Also have hooks on the inside to hold long loppers & clips on the roof(internal) to hold sweeping brush & rakes.

  • This is my last van which was also a mwb/med roof. The current van is a T300 FWD mwb and I love having the space for 2 mowers in the side door...a mulcher and a roller. Things have changed a bit with the current van, mulcher is a viking mb755, things fit in a bit better (ramp is bigger) and a few other improvements.

Space in back door for a few bulk bags squashed in, plus if it's a busy one I can fire them in on top of mowers until I get home. Usually able to fit 5-6 reasonably full bags in. I do prefer driving without the trailer so use this as much as possible, though if it's really wet or there's lots of grass cuttings I'll take the trailer.

Ramp for mower up against bulkhead.

  • We have kitted out our 2nd vehicle ( fiat relay )

Fully ply lined, a boxed shelve to the left of the side door, ( as there is a set back section behind the seat)
We have boxed the tyres in and put a ply sheet from floor to ceiling on both sides. We then put a section of ply to the rear, This gives us a full box section by the rear doors.

We have the section between the left and right sides and the ply section to store, tools, bags etc.

The rear section of ply have the option of being fully removed with gate clips, allowing long section to be put the van ie fence pannells etc.

On the other side we have clips allowing the hooking of our tools.

The long tools are on the innner roof at present, and the mowers are on the floor.

I'll try to upload some pictures within a week. Its not fully completed yet.

  • MWB FWD Midroof 100T280 transit panel van...

Like I said, Dan's sounds very similar. I know there's definitely room for improvement (when I get a spare couple of days this winter) but we can live with it for now. I think a couple of high shelves for some of the random tat that just knocks about.
