Hi James
I took the plunge last year and switched platforms after having windows for 18 years . Bought a Macbook Air . Wondered at first if I could justify the extra expense but no regrets whatsoever ....
I didn't like the new Windoze 7 ....
OSX took a bit of getting used to at first after being so long with a PC but soon appreciated the difference . Everything just works and is so simple ! Had no problems whatsoever ! Also all upgrades are FREE and you get local support from Apple shops
I personally would recommend getting one with SSD hard drive as they are much quicker ( boot in seconds ) run quieter and no heat probs. Also with you the simple integration between your iPhone and iPad would be an added bonus .
Hi James,
Are you just planning to use the Mac for standard stuff? are you planning to do any design work etc etc on it? if not you will only be scratching the surface of its power. Don't get me wrong they are awesome, but unless you are using them as intended a decent Windows model would save you a few quid. (won't look as good though)
Well if its design work, then what the hell go for it!
you can get a decent discount on a refurbished model (contact local apple store for details) they can sometimes just been returned with no faults other than packaging.
Good luck!
And battery life is awesome 9 hrs with 40 mins to full charge
I sacked 'doze in about 2002 - went Linux, never looked back since
Oh, and costs simply don't matter 'cos they don't exist.
As it happens I reply from a Scientific Linux empowered PC, which is a community version of RHEL and very close to CentOS. I run my servers on Debian.
Your Apple vendor is unlkely to be impressed because where there is no cost there is no commission.
Hi James,
I recently upgraded my Windows laptop to a Dell latitude laptop, which has a good spec, really pleased with this, not the cheapest laptop, but all the reviews were really good and it does what I want it to do! However, I didn't go for Windows eight as no one seems to like Windows 8 very much and Windows 7 seems to work fine for me. I have quite a few piece of software which run on Windows and it cost me too much money to upgrade to the Apple Mac.
I hope this helps.
