Overview
Stones3 Gabion Concepts supply wire gabions of various sizes suitable for landscaping and garden projects.
I have used these on a number of garden projects; l have found them very useful and impressive when terracing an area of garden. In particular they do complement new railway sleepers; used in conjunction with the sleepers they will soften the look i.e. they breakup an all wood look.
The gabions come flat packed and are easy to assemble; long metal 'springs' are threaded onto the corners to join the faces. Strong structures can be constructed when the individual baskets are joined together with the 'springs'. This is easily achieved with the landscaping gabions, more difficult with the garden gabions as the joining 'spring' has a smaller diameter.
The visible faces of the gabions can be finishes with various materials from natural stone to wine bottles; Stones3 have various ideas on their website; personally l have used Black Mountain Quarry BMQ stone. The non visible faces (approx two thirds of the volume) can be back filled with rubble, bricks, old slabs etc; they're a great way to reduce the amount of waste you have to dispose of from a site.
I have seen them used for benches or similar; l would say there are some sharp wire mesh ends where the mesh has been cut and on the ends of the springs. These could catch or tear clothing or scratch someone; l would think twice before using them in those applications or similar.
The landscape gabions are galvanized and the garden gabions are powder coated.
The companies customer service has always been helpful and provide a prompt turn around time between order and delivery.

l agree. I would like to experiment further and have a few a ideas for additional fills; also been considering weaving fairy lighting in between the stone fill or bottles etc to give more interest at night.
The first two pictures are 450mm gabions - perfect size especially for the BMQ stone.
The last photo are 372mm gabions - would be good small fills, the BMQ stone was a little too big.
I selected the size based upon the height and or width l was trying to achieve.
750mm's would be massive a probably found at the side of motorways; the amount of backfill would be significant based on the amount the volume the 450mm's consumed.
