hello all

getting a few requests for fencing, sheds and decking etc so would like to get a nail gun to make the job faster.

what gun would you all recommend? currently looking at a paslode im350+ which does look real good but my only gripe is that the minimum size nails you can use in it is 50mm, when doing smaller fences with 19mm boards and 32mm rails i imagine the nails would just shoot out the other side, unless maybe fire them in at an angle?

so what do you all recommend ? :)
thanks

  • Hi James,

I have used Paslode for 20+ years now and will getting the new dewalt gun this week when our local supplier gets another batch in.

So will update you once i have had a chance to use it. The advantage of the new dewalt gun is its gasless so no having to keep the gas warm on these colder days and smaller so you can get into tighter spaces.

    Dewalt Gasless Nailer

We use them mainly on Closeboard fencing jobs, but they come in handy for lots of other jobs.

Paslode are great but heavy and expensive for the nails and gas canisters. I use a air compressor powered gun, cant remember the model name but it takes lots of different sizes, packs of the nails are reasonably priced and its light to use. Look at the machinemart website. Thats where i bought mine.paslodes are great in respect of no cables or hoses and compressors but they are very heavy for all day use
  • Thanks guys, much appreciated :)

Wow that does look a nice gun!!
a lot less bits to service on it and nice size, very tempting!
would it take and cheaper galv ring nails like the paslodes etc can?

Doesn't that still only do minimum 50mm nails though?

    it seem's so mate
after a good few hours of looking around and reviews i think i will just have to live with 50mm shortest length nails.
not a huge problem but way more convenient than carting an air cylinder etc about with me.
the above dewalt gun looks like it will do the job just fine, cost a little more than the im350 but no servicing costs or gas cylinders to buy. :)

  • ordered a DEWALT DCN690M2
will be sent out Monday, will let you all know how it get's on.

    cheers for the help guys

  • i'd be interested to know what you make of it. If you didn't mind a review of sorts. Battery life etc.

Also interested to hear your thoughts on it peter.

certainly will, there's a video review on another forum along with a couple of user reviews and they are very happy with it over their paslodes.
i like how it's gasless so no issues with using it in cold weather which is exactly the time of year i will be using it as spring, summer and autumn are full time grass cutting seasons for me.
And d#it does certainly get very cold up here in the north highlands of scotland! :)

  • what nails do you recommend for fencing etc, looking for 50mm ones, best to go stainless steel or galv ring shank do the job?
also the heads on teh nails would have to be half rounded?
    cheers
