  • Jumping to rough numbers - I use my mowers for 14-16 hours a week, all other tools around 2 hours each id say (blower strimmer hedge cutters etc).

On this usage I get 3-4 seasons, by which time most are suffering, - though still working, bearings wear, filters die, wheels on mowers need adjusting, carbs just dont perform etc

  • got new stihl trimmer 4 months back "it is 1 of the entry level models intended for domestic use though" would say done somewhere in the region of 140 hours work with it mostly just going round edges of lawns etc but maybe around 10 hours or so of cutting long grass to, anyways drive shaft went the other day and is now in for repair thankfully a warranty job but im guessing this machine wont last much longer than the warranty that comes with it

Maybe it will maybe it won't. Likely not. But there are plenty of older stihl brushcutters like fs400's that are still going as strong as they did when new.

  • bought a fs 55 when i first started up, good for domestic use but after a season started to fall to bits! now have a fs400 and its very strong and powerful. Its also great only having to fuel it once per day!

  • I'll say it again, buy a good brand like Echo and you'll wonder why people still stick with Stihl.

Mine was bought 5 years ago used. Roughly average 4hrs use a week, x8 months/34 weeks x 5 years = 700 hours so far. No repairs. Just 2 new heads and services once a year. I bought it used for £120. Its an SRM4000
  • two new heads?!?!

We go through a head a month!!

  • My echo srm 5000 died last week. Unrepairable but I had it for over 6 years and before then it never missed a beat. Just new spark plug every year and filter when needed. I have another two so will be kept for spares.

  • Getting through head that quick is a bit alarming...smacks of not taking the weight off the head when strimming paved areas ?

  • Gone off Stihl recently, due to repeated failures from 3 different tools ( one strimmer, 2 hedge trimmers).Im currently using a Honda 4 stroke strimmer, 2 years of use on domestic gardens and commercial grounds (regular lawn strimming and the odd long grass job) and not been near a repairman. Speaks volumes, sorry Stihl fans.
