    Hi Mitchel

    Welcome to LJN:)

It looks like this spell of warm weather will be continuing for a while yet: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/uk-weather-heatwave-...

  • Don't even start me it's like every tom dick and Harry is buying a cheap lawn mower and petrol trimmers and having a ho not sure what to do as this could send me under
  • I'm seeing more & more about, most of the "old faces" are still around, but a lot in un marked vehicles, with b&q mowers.
The other side of the coin is, I'm picking up work where the gardener has made a few visits, then just not botherd coming back, so looks like they are trying it ,not making the money they thought & moving on.

    Welcome Mitchell
  • Lots of un marked vehicles round here and bloody family cars. Even builders having a go. But everyone round my area wants jobs on price rather than here's my portfolio or references.

I just need to work out a way of reaching new customers don't know weather to flyer drop or advertise
  • Using a b&q mower would surely restrict them to small gardens as the first time they try something more substantial it'll probably die, the novelty will probably wear off with a few weeks of rain.

  • Derek I don't think I've ever prayed this hard for rain or cold overkast days. Yeah but what do you class as a small garden most round here are no bigger than half a tennis court.

You will always see this, it's an annual occurrence.

The goal (...and accept it is not always easy) is to move your offering out of the price sensitive market (by adding skills, services, products, quality etc), otherwise it will always be a battle of who can work for less and that ultimately drives the industry, standards and morale downwards.

Too many people are prepared to bend over on price.....

  • I tend to target larger gardens that require high end kit, they would be a nightmare with b&q kit.

  • My hourly rate is £15 and a day rate is £100 but I always try to price jobs otherwise you end out of pocket if your a hard worker.

Price round here fluctuates a lot but more than most it's who you know . The common one round here is to under quote job win it then put price up half way through job or walk off
  • High gardens like such? I own pretty much everything you can imagine. 2x 21 inch mowers
    1x rough cut
42 inch ride on mtd mower
2x stihl hedge cutters one with 30 inch blade
1x stihl long reach hedge cutter
    2x stihl chainsaws
    1x stihl leaf blower

I just need a mower for putting lines in now and some nice tressels boards and tower scaffolding
