Has anyone got a spa / hot tub?

I have finally decided that as I will not be able to take a holiday this year I will redesign my garden and toying with incorporating a Hot Tub. A swimming pool would be nice but just wouldn’t be practical.I saw a client today who had both and swears by them.My thinking is that after a hard days work it would be a wonderful way to relax and unwind and also help ease away those aches and pains. So if anyone has a hob tub / spa, are these as cheap to run as they make out but more importantly how often do you use them? Just a little worried that it will be one of those things that get used for the first few months and then falls besides the roadside or in this case becomes an expensive garden feature!

I always fancied a wood powered hot tub . I saw one when I was in the French alps a couple of years ago, but decided against it as I don't think we get enough of the right kind of weather for it.
  • A client of mine has a hot tub and using theirs alot and they say they use theirs more in the winter than the summer.
  • I made a garden few years ago that included a wooden jaquzzi sunk in a raised deck. It was actually the customer who brought it all the way from Alaska- saying that these are the best ones.

It is also a great feature- like when you have a nice bench or so. that garden included an extra big raised deack so it is all looked in the right place. (the deck did not look strange there.) a little path from stepping stones to the raised deck that was surrounded by plants.

While working there the lady said that they had one before in the usa and it is great and they like to use it naked.
I must say she looked that good that it was a bit hard to work thinking about it on that day.

I asked them if they keep using it?
to make things short they saying that they are always use it... naked.

One thing I remember is with the used water I needed to make sure that the plants around are fine with lots of water and maybe had some minerals too- can not remember.

I was invited to visit that garden in August and looking forward that.
  • you could always plant potatoes and carrots in it if you found you didnt use it much or the electric was sky high,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,could you make one 1/4 of the price or sell it if you got bored of it ?
  • I used to install Hot Tubs for a company in Weybridge Surrey. Very nice if you take the time to clean filters and check the correct sanitation levels. The first time you clean a filter you will be shocked at the stuff that will have accumalated on it. ( skin, hair etc)

have owned a hot tub for 5 yrs ,yes they are great for relaxing in after a hard days graft, the model we have costs about 8 pounds a week to run eletric, chemicals around 100 pounds p/a we use it around 6-10 hrs per week,on average ,more in winter especially when its frosty outside and the waters 38 dig ,they need a bit of maint, filter change and clean every 2 weeks ,water change ,chemical check before use .i would also only buy from a well established dealer alot spring up ,stay in buisness for a year or 2 then disapear, when you still have another 3 yrs warranty left,we have just had our first breakdown, blower motor burnt out 175 pound so not bad for 5 yrs use
i hope this gives you some ideas
