  • Trends:
Veg growing, raised beds and once again, low maintenance or could be fairly/low maintenance as more clients wish to spend time in the garden. In the real world, gardens on a budget.

    Plants:
This year so far have been asked for deer, rabbit, horse and... HEDGEHOG resistant plants. Perhaps people are actually noticing the wildlife visiting their gardens and wish to limit the damage.

As ever though it will be the usual suspects, alliums, verbena bonariensis etc and anything which is 'low maintenance'. Think though there will be a blend of edible and ornamental planting to beds and borders.

Colours: Cool pallet to suit the mood.
Saying that, could be hot colours as a rebellion against the economic situation. (covering all bases here).

Designers/Peoples Award: No idea. Are there any names that spring to mind?
  • Look out for artificial lawns gaining more ground. Not too sure how the Lazy Lawn products will be received by the die hards but they did very well at Hampton Court last year and it generated an amazing amount of interest.

I bet grass lawns don't feature.
  • Very true - it always amazes me how lawns are over looked - Nice to see Mike having a go at them about it.
  • anything got's to be better than shades of different greens - beautiful but still nice to see flowers and colour. I think they're going to take after gardeners world and go more sustainable living. Veg & fruit I bet will dominate this year. Hopefully, with the way things are at the moment with the news, designers will really go for lots of colour to cheer everybody up.

By the way, I hope the RHS sort out the pricing structures to let mere mortals in and not just the well off. Actually, just been on their website and the tickets are £43 for Chelsea for the day. Maybe they could reduce their prices to help us with our sustainable living because the money saved could be bought for a bottle of wine thus helping out the vineyard growers, we could buy vegetables to grow on our vegetable patches, we could also buy fruit trees to help us offset our carbon footprints. We could maybe make it the RHS sustainable circle.

I hope no one picked up on the sarcasm in this reply - it really is the lowest form of wit!!!
