Hi Elspeth - nice to see you ;)

I think -Achiliea in the background (yellow) Salvia left (blue spires) and Pennisetum - fountain grass right.
  • Great - yes thanks Philip! Hi - long time no speakie! Wasnt sure which Salvia there are so many. Sounds good tho. Any idea where? Hard to say. US?
  • Jill thinks the yellow ones at the back are heleniums ormore likely rudbeckias, the blueish ones are salvia (probably nemorosa) and the grass is pennisetum villosum

    Hi Simon

I am still convinced that the yellow flowers are Achillea - have a look at this photo - http://www.gentiana.com.au/?stg=178&view=178
  • Thanks Jill! V helpful. Think the Salvia is probably right. If you look closely I think Philip is right re the yellow is probably Achiliea because of the greyish foliage and shape. Hard to say for sure tho. Am guessing this is in the US somewhere just because of the plant origins. Who knows! :o)
  • Phil is right the yellow is definitely Achillea - either 'Moonshine' or 'Cloth of Gold', the Salvia is probably 'Mainacht' and the grass is Pennisetum probably 'Hamelyn'.

  • You are all quite right about the achillea now I've put my super-magnifying specs on!
  • Location ? Soil would be free draining loamy soil in sun. Blue plants I think are a saliva, probably nemorosa, grasses could be pennisetum 'Hameln' or 'Orientale'. Yellow backdrop, my guess Achilla filipendulina.
  • The grass in the foreground looks like Hordeum jubatum
The blue salvia, Salvia x silvestris may night is my guess
and the achillea with the silvery sheen to the foliage would suggest moonshine
  • Agree - the grass is Hordeum jubatum.......and I think Gareth is right on the others as well.
    Cheers
