  • defiantly you can get so much more brash in them i tend to fill a few builders bags and put them on top of the brash then rope them down to secure the load only downside if its a tipping trailer that the brash can get stuck in the mesh so be careful how you load it if its just grass cuttings no probs other it going through the sides

  • they are brillaint, especially if you take alot of clearance work on - the amount of waste they can take is great, just make sure you dont overload them as the Police like to pull over an check you if you have a fully laden trailer - over 750kg on a licence passed since 1997 and your in big trouble.

Personally I purchased a "paxman" 7x4ft trailer for under £1k new last year, one of the best investments I've made to date.

  • I have the paxman in 7x5, with cage, you can get loads in them, but if you chip or shred its so easy to overload them, I had 440k in mine the other day & it could of easily taken more.

  • Good advice Gary. I wanted one, but was so unsure about the stolen/false numbers etc, I went for a new smaller make.

  • I bought a 10 x 6 tipper new made locally 5 years ago with 2 10ft aluminum ramps for mowers etc. Was £3500 at the time but if it lasts me 10 years and is worth nothing at that stage it has only cost me £7 per week. Worth every penny especially when you go to the dump and see 2 men with forks taking half an hour to empty a smaller trailer when 5 mins tips mine.
  • I've got an 8x4 Indespension with cages. Great trailer, although next time round I'd definitely buy a tipper. It's not a fun job first thing in the morning forking/raking/pulling a stuffed full trailer load off!

Having a cages trailer opens up more opportunities to take on bigger clearance jobs and to make good margins from removing the waste. It sets you apart from the wee gardener with the little van who has to charge for a skip.
  • Its "Paxton" by the way sorry.

I got the 7x5 as it was the biggest I could get in my garage, the next i'll get will be a tipper with the built in ramp, saves messing around with ramps, & as Philip says being able to tip it up is a big big plus.

  • 8x5 Ifor Williams, was £1400 about ten years ago and is still good as new. How many times it's payed for itself I don't know!

In hindsight, a twin-axle tipper would be better. It takes me about 20 minutes on my own to empty the trailer by hand, along with the van (sounds like some people Philip sees have staff who could work faster, lol), but it can be hard work you don't need to do.

The downside is that they are a theft magnet. I only take mine out when I absolutely have to, and usually just empty the van in to it every evening.

  • Yep get one. I bought a 5-9ft Ifor but I found it very heavy to turn and push by hand at the property I was living in at the time. I now have an 8-4ft Ifor its a great tool. Top Tip- If you need to turn it around by hand and it is empty just lift the jockey wheel and it will pivot on the front wheels and turn easily. Dont no how many times I dragged it around to go in my garage before I discovered this.

  • Ifor TT126 gets filled daily in the autumn. You won't know how you managed without one.
