Block paving pattern - will this work?

A customer has requested that we lay his pavers (driveline 50's) in the following fashion. We've never laid a drive in this order before and appreciate if someone with experience could confirm that this should be OK. Im curious to know if the integrity will be as good as herringbone.

  • The integrity wont be as good as herringbone as thats meant to be the best pattern for interlock, I would imagine the movement would be similar to that of basket weave.

  • cant see why it wont work, but as Kieran says wont be as strong.

This will definitely not be as strong as herringbone as there is no interlocking to give it strength. You will almost certainly get some form of wheel ruts and I would try to steer the customer away from it.

I presume the edge on the left is a path to the front door. You could keep this and just instal the herringbone to the parking area with some form of charcoal feature in the centre. Make sure you have put all edging on a solid concrete foundation and haunched the sides well to try and prevent any possible splay
