  • Yellow with quite bold lettering works well for me, its pale enough that the writing stands out well yet bright enough to stand out well from the 'white' paper background
  • Stick with green...it's the colour of the trade your in..it will look good and work on a sub conscious level too ;-)
  • hot pink stands out from the crowd but might be a bit too Barbie-fied for our industry. What about purple with white text? Psyciatrists tell us that purple is quite an aspirational colour - it represents luxury. Best bet is to see what colours other advertisers are using and go for something completely different - in some cases, black and white will stand out in a sea of bright colours
  • green or black and white..................... i dont like to pay for extra's esp when the ads dont work !

try it if its £30 or less as a one off, last one i did for 'wandsworth' had no calls at all .......
  • I have found out that most of the tradesmen get all there work form the paper..one guy..a plumber pays £1200 a year, job done..all work for the year..told me don't waste money on fliers..I will get too much work from the paper alone..most around hear go straight to the cumbernauld news for services.

It might be worthwhile phoneing a couple of non related trades with similar sized adverts and politely asking what sort of response theyve had before you commit...... This is something i have done before, better to get info from the source rather than the salesman.
  • Its an extra £3 on top of the £26 to have the colour..I'm going to run it for 6 weeks..with one week free..so 6 for 5 around £150.

  • Nobody has a colour as of yet in the garden services..so a little splodge of whatever colour could be an advantage.

  • Alan,

Be very mindful of what works for one trade doesn't always work for others.

Set yourself a marketing budget and try a few different options such as newspaper, shop windows, fliers, parish mags etc.

Then monitor where the enquiries are coming from. If you notice that the right kind of work is coming from one or two places, pump more effort into using these mediums. If you don't ask you will never know and chances are you would be getting the best results from the smallest outlay.

If I was doing newspapers I would go for colour but all down to cost.
