A few free days appearing

I'm starting to find a few half and full days appearing in my schedule now, and personally I take this as a blessing! My grass cutting clients are tailing off for the winter leaving me with a little bit of time here and there to get other things done. It's been a manic summer with only one holiday week, just a week ago.

A couple of clients have had their last grass cut already, as their lawns are kept a bit rougher than average, the weekly ones are now fortnightly bar one and due for their last cut in the next fortnight, and commercial sites have gone from fortnightly to monthly, except the one surrounded by mature trees! (hoping for a dry day on Thursday to clear that one up).

How are you all finding things?

I do not intend to try and fill the gaps, as getting new clients (and I have had calls in the past week or two) will mean me being hugely overbooked come spring, and I don't want to hire full time.

Time for more fishing, sleeping and eating I reckon!

  • yes i've only got one more large planting project, so will then be down to part time again which is great as I might get christmas organised in advance this year, and i've got 2 training days booked in (a marketing planning for 2011 and a customer retention course - let me know anyone if you want more details) and it's mine and my husbands birthdays in November, so I always take the day off for those.

Paul going to the Gym is a good idea, - i'll have to book that in as well, - i'm going to be busy even if i'm not always in clients gardens.
  • I have last cuts to do next week and the week after, although some have given up at the first sign of frost that we had a couple of days ago and some that think the grass stops growing at the end of September, so have around 50% of my customers still to finish off.
  • Where are the courses Claire?
Any chance of the details on constant contact and how you use it?

  • No let up for me, still cutting weekly, clearing leaves etc, and will be till week before xmas, got to earn a living.
  • Just had another call about a garden design - that makes three in the pipeline! Need all my free time for that - so bring on the rain!! (sorry guys, didn't mean it)
  • Stopped cutting last week.
    Fully booked now until Jan.
I just postpone jobs until the grass cutting has finished and now only take on new customers if they want year round work.

these are the courses i'm going on
    http://www.customergreenhouse.co.uk/
    and
    http://www.flourishstudios.co.uk/speaking/marketing-workshops/focus...

not cheap, but i've found that they are excellent for networking (I almost always get work out of them) and they force me to take a day out of the business, to work on the business

very happy to tell you more about constant contact, - can you message me phone number please or email and i'll give you more details (on half term at the mo so may be an additional voice in the background!)

  • I have a lot of commercial work which gives me the gift of being able to accept less domestic work in the winter.

Got a good client base of winter work which I am keeping though. Such a relief to drop a few seasonal jobs and enjoy some time to myself again.

Greenlawns - cutting weekly? I see the point for leaf removal, but the grass has stopped in it's tracks now.
  • Yes still cutting weekly, just taking the top of it and picking leaves up, but it is still growing.

The ned of the mowing season has makes it a lot easier fitting one off's in. I tend to offer mowing as a part of a visit, so I'll still be seeing a lot of my customers over the winter to keep things tidy for them.

I do notice at this time of year I get a lot of enquiries from folks who have, to politely put it, neglegeted their garden over the summer and want them tidying.
