Hi Nicky,

Based in Shawlands mate. Saw your van around a few weeks ago then noticed your pics on the signwriting pics. Nice job.
I do a lot of rear court maintenance for factors (properly, unlike most!) and hedge trimming etc, so different from yourself. You won't have seen me around as no signage on the van at the mo. If you ever have a big job on and need a spare pair of hands give me a shout. Whereabouts are you?
Cheers
Andy

Hi Nicky,
Yes it is a stunning place. Shame about the park - damn runners get everywhere.
I am trying my utmost to get things moving and to also get donations for the site, I refuse to give in when I know I am in the right.
Cheers John

Hi Nicky, have you used Sketchup 7 yet. When you say you use CAD do you mean the specific one, or the general programs.
Re, estimation charges - I would definately pay towards your bus fare (single) as long as you lived less than a mile away. lol !!

A Designer At Work: Enquiry Handling

Posted on October 3, 2011 at 13:00 4 Comments

Hopefully, having explored different options on how to present a garden design or landscaping brand to our target audience, we have now received some enquiries!

The second stage of the design process involves handling these enquiries: this is especially important for designers because it will be the first active communicative response to our potential client, and we need to demonstrate our…

A Designer At Work: Initial Presentation of the Brand

Posted on September 23, 2011 at 12:40 0 Comments

Having established the 10 major stages of the design process; let’s now have a look at how these might be achieved:

Each week I shall concentrate on 1 stage of the design process and discuss my personal approach and what software and techniques I use.  I’d be keen to hear how your approach differs and what programs you utilise and in what way.

STAGE 1: INITIAL PRESENTATION OF THE…

A Designer At Work: The Design Process

Posted on September 16, 2011 at 14:24 0 Comments

Last week we talked about the Pomodoro Technique and how the app derived from its method: Focus Booster is a great way to induce focus and increase productivity in the design studio.  This is a great general use tool to cover all stages of the design process that involve paperwork or computer work: but what is the design process – and do we all follow the same structure? Probably not, and it is…

A Designer At Work: Time Management Techniques

Posted on September 9, 2011 at 10:30 1 Comment

Everybody has their own way of working and I’m no different, but as small business owners we often need to do many different jobs in one day – the types of jobs that larger companies have entire departments for: so there is a need to optimise time and focus on efficiency.

I am primarily a designer and I don’t know about you but my brain certainly behaves a little bit like a computer running on low RAM: too many applications running at once and ideas take a long time to load. …

The S Factor.

People tell me I am still young... but I don't feel it.

Last year was brutal on a personal level, the year before was bad too and 2011 I had hoped would be an improvement, things would be simpler.  It has been far from that.

It is of course inevitable that personal events have a consequence on business matters, and my case is no different.  This creates a great deal of upfront stress. An eternal buzz of adrenaline.  Churning bowels. Twitching eye.

Then of course there is…
