About Me:
Over the past eleven years I have had the privilege of designing, building and planting hundreds of high-end gardens. From small, contemporary urban courtyards to suburban family gardens and large estates.

Creating a garden is all about the aspirations, lifestyle and budget of my client. With this in mind each garden project is unique and completely individual.

With a careful eye for the smallest detail potential problems are ‘designs out’ at an early stage. This makes every garden aesthetically pleasing yet practical.

My team of reputable and experienced contractors construct the gardens to the highest standards using the best in landscaping materials. I oversee all the projects from start to finish making sure that work is progressing to the client’s and my satisfaction, on time and to budget.

I source all the plants required for the schemes and inspects every one before delivery to site ensuring they are of the finest quality available before planting them.

The finishing touches such as furniture, water features or statuary can be commissioned from talented craftspeople to compliment the design and complete the character of the garden.

Based in Cambridge, I work all over the South East and have written for and contributed to various magazines and national newspapers.

The garden design Co won a RHS Silver Medal at Hampton Court for the small garden ‘Dave’s Place’ which was featured on BBC TV and in The Daily Mail and RHS The Garden magazine.

Health, Safety and innocent looking deck chairs.

Today I swung by a well-known chain of designer discount brands looking for a birthday present for my eldest daughter and came across two deck chairs. The canvass pattern was eye catching with lovely soft head rests, they were the same Danish make as the ones that I bought last summer for my garden which have a great ‘safe’ locking mechanism. Well mine do.

After reading the invitiation placed on the chair, which read ‘feel free to sit on the garden furniture’, I duly did after first checking th… Continue

Deer/rabbit resistant planting, finishing gardens, working together and LJ networking

I knew that Dale would be on site earlier than me today, as I went to buy grass seed for patching up along the back of the raised beds and Dale's usual jam doughnut's.

Yesterday I planted up the majority of the garden which required deer and rabbit resistant plants. Thank you to all of you who gave me their experience of what cute bunnies and graceful deer don't seem to like. I have fantastic lists if anyone needs them.

The phone was silent, and i… Continue

Creating gardens, inspiration from the natural landscape

After ten years in this glorious industry, it is easy to lose sight the wonderful and honoured position we are in especially when you’re pushing paper, making calls, and solving the day-to-day problems, which inevitably are part of running a business.

It’s hard being self-employed, there is too much work, not enough work and, on the whole the weather is rubbish, and like all jobs, it has it ups and its downs.

Today was a lovely day, a slight chill in the air and the smell of autumn in the bree… Continue

tips for the garden when selling your house

If you are trying to sell or let your property, first impressions count. With so many properties on the market at the moment it isn’t enough just to make sure that the bins are hidden from the front of your property on a viewing day, or the fallen leaves and wind blown litter are swept up. It may be time to invest a little on the potential ‘first sight’ falling in love with thing, and design a simple, welcoming front garden.

Keep the front garden in keeping with the property. For small urban fr… Continue

garden design ideas

You probably have a garden, either an urban courtyard or rural retreat.

No doubt you require many things from the space such as an Al fresco entertaining area, playground for the children, exercise area for the dog, bike storage, a washing line, wheelie bin park, log stack, composting area, shed, and the list goes on! But most of all most of us want a beautiful haven in which to relax and unwind. How does that work?

I wish! Somehow I managed to buy a house with the most Southern Yard here. I wanted desert landscaping. However, I have 3 gardinas, 3 long needle pines, Magnolia, crepe myrtle, nandina, cape honeysuckle, white jasmine, purple plum tree, and roses.

I was thrilled to find out I have a hibiscus planted in my yard. They have to be garaged in the winter in Atlanta or they die off. So having one in the ground is a real treat.

I container gardened veggies and herbs this summer. I kept the plants on the Northside up near the house to keep them from burning. It worked like a charm. I will attempt year round vegetable gardening this year. Wish me luck!

Love your photo of the stones! How is going in UK?

Thanks for the comment.
I took this picture at one of our gardens we were working at.
We had planted this section in 2007 and the flower display summer 2008 was quite spectacular.
