ZIP LEVEL A GOOD IDEA?

Hi everyone, I wonder if anyone can offer me some advice ref surveying. I just picked up another two jobs today, and to say the levels are a little tricky is an understatement. I will be surveying on my own and I am thinking about now investing in a zip level. Does anyone have any advice feedback ref this. I thought about hiring but that seems cost negative against a purchase.

Grateful for any thoughts.

Kind Regards

Sam W

    Hi Samantha

If I were in your position I'd definitely purchase a Zip Level. It would bring you so much more flexibility for a start.

Just imagine returning the level to the hire shop and then realising that one critical measurement has been missed?

You could, if you so wished, also advertise your own Zip Level for hire, if you owned one;)

  • We've got one of these and love it:
    nivcomp

  • Very easy to use, easy to transport, accurate to within a couple of mm, shortens survey time significantly and you can use it alone. Definitely worth the investment I'd say!

    Hi Sam,

We are UK importers of ZipLevel. We would refund your rental charge if you purchased at the end of the week's hire, but it's probably better if we give you a demo. Happy to do that at a site convenient to you. Alternatively, we are exhibiting at the SGD Autumn conference (Nov 16th) and at Futurescapes (Nov 19th).
If you give me a call on 0118 981 1313, I can answer any questions you might have.

Thanks for your interest in ZipLevel.

    Hi Paul

Would your offer apply to all LJN members? Sort of try before you buy.

    Hi Phil,

Yes, we would that for everyone. Also, as a Landscape Juice member, they would receive 10% discount.

If they are able to collect it from us, they can rent for just one day at a cost of £35 + vat. Alternatively, we can send it by next-day delivery. In this case, it would need to be rented for a week, and there is a carriage charge of £12.50 + vat each way. If the renter made a decision to purchase at the end of the week, we would refund the week's rental charge (but not the carriage charge) once payment had been received for the purchase.

    You can't lose :)

Hope the weather is better in France than it is in Hampshire.

    Regards

    Paul

    Phil,

I should have said, in my last post, that the weekly rental charge for the ZipLevel is £70 + vat.

    Thanks Paul

    What's the outright purchase price?

Weather is wet (but mild) here:(

Net purchase price to LJ members, including next-day carriage, is:
    Pro-2000 B £616.50
    Pro-2000 £796.50

Both prices subject to vat at standard rate (currently 20%)

We have a couple of units that have done some demos; there would be room for a small haggle on those.

  • Dear all, I just wanted to say a big thank you for all the advice.

I thought an update might be of use.

Basically Paul Errington kindly came to site and I got to play with the Zip Level. It was incredibly robust and easy to use and I was impressed but they are so expensive. I then after much research ordered a NivComp from the chaps at www.laser-level.co.uk. The product arrived the next day with the understanding that I could try it at home (inside) and return if not suitable. Well here's my update.

Firstly, I could not have been better served by Laser Level Staff, incredibly knowledgeable and willing to help. I think if you predominantly work on small/med relatively easy to survey sites, then the NivComp would be a great pick, it's almost half the price. For me, due to the nature of the steep/rugged sites I am being called upon to survey, I felt that the Zip Level was more suitable.

Both bits of kit are really easy to use, though I preferred the robustness of the Zip - also it does not matter what plain you hold the sensor in and it can record multiple data.

    Kind Regards

    Sam
