Hello,

I found this information on one of my supplier's sites recently and thought it may be of interest to some people. It covers the use of water for ponds/water features when under a hose pipe ban:

www.watergardeningdirect.com/acatalog/2012-Hosepipe-Ban-Advice-for-Pond-Keepers.html

I try to encourage my clients to install rainwater gathering and storage systems where possible as it is a low cost and environmentally friendly option for pond/feature top ups. It can reduce the need to add tap safe chemicals which is a bonus too. Using gravity feed to supply the water from storage is great or a pump can be used if this is not possible.

Greywater treatment, storage and re-use is possible in the UK. Other more water scarce countries like Australia have used and developed these technologies through necessity but we can all benefit.

Does anyone know of people who use this in the UK?

This is an area I would like to learn more about. Is anyone a specialist out there on the site?

Tom.

  • I would love to know more about this as well Tom, thanks for the link.

This is definitely an area that landscape designers and landscapers need more awareness and advice in: there are a multitude of possible solutions to rainwater management for use in the garden. A great resource of ideas is the book "Rain Gardens" by Nigel Dunnett and Andy Clayden (available on Amazon).

It's be useful to see more discussion on these topics on LJN.
