Vauxhall vivaro gearbox problems again!

Just wondering if any of you guys who run Vauxhall vivaros have had any problems with the gearbox. I have a 2010 model and is only done 30K and the gearbox has let me down for the second time. Each time the vans down for over a week, and the gearbox bearings only did 8000 miles this time before they went. Just waiting for the full details from Vauxhall. I know the older vivaros had a gearbox issue but not heard of it in the new ones. Goig to get it changes asap and wondered if I wshould risk another Vivaro as they are great vans and the right money.

Many thanks

  • Hi, I have a 06, gear box isn't great but its coming up to 95k. Sounds like something else is causing the problem, I would try finding a local gear box specialist unless its still under guarantee?
My van its great but possible thinking of changing it in for a transit just for the cheaper parts.

May not be the cause of this problem, but having a number of these we know that garages do not change / check gearbox oil regularly even tho' the service schedule says they should.

It's a 'difficult' job, apparently best done up on a ramp and needs a special dipstick/tool to gain access and check. It is a task often 'forgotten'.....

Never had a gearbox problem on our vans, clutches have lasted at least 65k but is so, so down to driver & load

  • Did look at one of these but was told the boxes go at 80k garenteed.

They are only a car gear box not heavy duty van one.
  • Iveco's and Sprinters for the serious work, my sixteen year old R plate Sprinter is still on its original box and swaps cogs like a dream.

  • I have a Vivaro 2010 warranty is due to finish in April and Gearbox caused xproblems today, Vauxhall are having it for a week while they strip gearbox and whatever else is required.

I have insisted on a courtesy van which they have now agreed after I threatened compensation for lost revenue and of course recompense for my employee.

Nice van but now concerned regarding reliability.
  • Mark, I posted a car and van review site link on here yesterday. Check out the Vivaro results. They're not very pretty I'm afraid.

  • I feel your pain, have an 05 Trafic only done 63K, trafic vivaro, primastar identical I went to put van into reverse and couldnt get it out of reverse gear, took about 10 mins to get it in to first while sitting half out on a buisy road.

So far have replaced airflow meter twice, EGR once, Chip that controls turbo to tell it to kick in and now gear box problems.

So whether to buy another vivaro id debate?
Ps if you have a trafic buy after market vauxhall parts as renault make them anyway, sell them to vauxhall and vauxhall sell them about half the price.
Markb hope I havent hijacked your thread.

  • Just an update. Vauxhall have had the van for a week and half and rebuilt the gear box but once rebuilt its now making more noise than it went in with so its still there. Head office have asked for it to be removed and stripped down again as they dont want to put in a new box but just keep replacing parts. This will be the 3rd time the box has been out and opened in 30000 miles. They say they will not put me in a courtesy van (after speaking to vauxhall uk) but have given me a Corsa to use which it no good for work. They think I should have it back this time next week (over 2 and a half weeks since it went in).

On a different note, I have spoken to 15 dealerships and not one of them have phone back with quotes for new vans-SHOCKING.

  • Vauxhall still have my van nearly a week now, but fortunately I have a nice 62 plate Vivaro courtesy van, told them I would take legal action and seemed to do the trick
