Van leasing

I have killed my van by DIY mechanic foul-up. I am now looking at replacing it. I am looking into leasing a van which would otherwise be out of my price range. With the disastrous winter of 2009-10 fresh in my memory I am hesitant to commit to additional overheads, but am currently hiring a rental van which is not cheap either. Do any members have experience or advice on this? I am based in Brighton on the south coast.

What monthly budget do you have David?
  • Hi Phil, I was hoping to find something for around £200 per month, a transit or equivalent.

I've just spoken to Brighton Van Sales Tel 01273 430838 and this is what I was told based on limited information available:

    SWB Transit £7,000 + Vat.

Down payment of the Vat = £1,225.00
£180 per month over 48 months.

    Total payable £9,865.00

Cost of financing using this method £1,640.00

The vehicle would be yours at the end of the period.

I'm waiting for a call back with specifics.
  • Thanks for this Phil, they weren't answering the phone to me! This is interesting- it would get me back on the road in a nice van without having to find a lump sum, but obviously is quite a bit more expensive in total... The only good thing is that commercial vehicles hold their value incredibly well. My dad just sold his escort van for what he paid for it after having driven it around for two years! I need to do some sums... thanks again.

Remember you need to put the Vat down as a deposit.

I'm not suggesting this is the cheapest route either; just a starting point :)
  • I lease a VW Caddy which I started doing from March this year. Not only was I impressed by the superior build quality I also found VW were offering much better deals than the Competition. I had a few extras added but I must say that the best decision was to have AC added. I pay approx 250 pm but remember you have to add fuel and insurance on top. (a similar spec transit connect would have been over £300pm)
  • oh yes , look at http://www.vanleasingspecialoffers.co.uk/. It is a website that covers all current offers for different manufacturers and models

They've called me back David and the details are as I've put up above.

You can call the business owner's son (as he's away until Monday) on 07802 891847. His name is 07802 891847.

It's worth doing further homework and maybe follow up on Robert's advice too.

I've never used Brighton Van Sales or have any association with them.

    Hope it helps.
