Hasanyone experienced anything similar? I had booked a fencing delivery for last Monday, as far as I was aware it had arrived as the fencing company sent me an ivoice that night. We turned up at the job and there were no panels in site. I called the supplier and they said it had benn delivered to 140 but it should have gone to 120! The first problem is 140 was on the delivery ticket normally I could accept that I may have given the wrong address but the job was for one of my closest friends so I know I would have said 120.
Second issue is I went to 140 and they said there was a delivery on their drive on Monday and was gone on Tuesday so I am now £700 out of pocket and not sure what to do next

  • Im surprise no responses..

    how awful

delivery should have been checked at your request,

easily mistaken as i've done it but moved it 4 doors up across the road..

could have gone unknown to me.

    - cant risk Anything now , so it seems.

police/ cameras/ look for new fences installed in area.

phone other landscapers to 'look out' also for you.

    insurance?

good luck/ insist supplier replaces , and checks note/order from your phone-call.
how did u pay if on barclay card it may be covered..

otherwise insist on 'ther cost price to replace' or you will never buy / recommend them again!

  • First of all surely the delivery was either signed for, or the driver spoke to someone?

Perhaps 140 are not being as honest as they seem, they were in possession of your goods and lost them...

Also you had no way of checking the paperwork / delivery note before it was delivered so, again not proovably your fault.

I've had people lift flagstones out of pallets before but got them back as the old chap (in a nice 400k house of course) was struggling to get the second one across the road.

Id have a look round the houses on the street and see if they are their, you may just catch your theif.

  • There is no proof you gave them the wrong address, unless they kept your order/scrap of paper. There will be no signed delivery ticket so I would have thought this is down to the supplier. I assume you paid in advance, if not, then just dont pay. A good example of why we should pay COD or by account.

  • My gut feeling is they are very local still, as it stands at the moment my local branch are blaming the branch that delivered as it seems they left no paperwork, and the delivering branch blaming the other for giving wrong address. I did look back at last months account statement and it wasn't on there so turns out I haven't paid yet. I emailed them last night basically saying I'm not going to pay for it as it was not received and I have tried to resolve but both branches just tell me to speak to the other so guess I just wait for there response

  • PRO

    I wouldn't pay.

Unless you gave specific instructions to drop the materials because no one would be on site, then it's the responsibility of the supply company. They should have got a signature.

  • Thanks guys I will let you know how it pans out, I feel a lot better about it all now after reading your comments

  • insist your not liable. there should be delivery not eat that house / or there paperwork .

stick to your guns ! they will try and b;lame each branch as thats what they do :) excuses..

  • We tend to confirm all orders by email inc. addresses so know if its our cock up, and with our relationship with supplier I would hope they settle 50/50 as neither party can 'prove' who is at fault. As for 140, I know a lot of people would be very happy to receive £700 of free fencing and may stick it in a garage (under cover of darkness) for safe keeping.
Most tool/plant insurance covers stock on site so this may be the easiest way to recover some cost, but a sore experience for sure.
    Hope you get some resolution.
