security, tags, cameras, lock & alarms etc

Whats your latest security measure?

Today i drove off putting my garage door 'fob' pressed in my pocket to remove a branch for an hour.. its usually somewhere safe & hard to touch. As i found it still in my pocket by my phone i did wonder if.

An hour later to return for trailer - YES garage door was wide open. im on a road front facing the road with only a 2 car driveway in front to pavement !

So - this is why i ask the above ! Yes i usually double check before driving off as its loaded full of mowers, rotavators, scarifiers, drills, wacker, bikes etc etc

Phew it was untouched, but so easily been robbed..

  • I have a yard, with security fencing 8ft high, 2 locks on the main gate.. then a steel container with two locks on it also. all the major machinery is also locked together. other than that there is not a lot we can do in my yard other than camera's etc. which will probably be installed at some point.

The site my yard is on has security camera's.. 8 foot high security fencing.. and 24hour patrol and the works but it doesn't stop people trying

  • Unfortunately, if someone wants to steal something, they will do! In the last couple of weeks here in Lincolnshire, I know of two friends that have been victims of crime.

One of them had the wall of shed demolished in order to pinch a quad bike and then on Sunday night, a friend had the cat cut off his truck while it was parked underneath his bedroom window!!!

It sounds like you were lucky this morning!

  • If they want it there going to get it, as there is no consequences. My brother had a 5k trailer taken off his driveway in broad daylight in front of witnesses, they got the reg plate of the guy. When the police caught up with him they said they had sold their van days earlier and V5 change of ownership was in the post. That unbelievably was the end of it. Trailer was brand new.

  • Funny ive just been looking up security for my garage and have installed a few measures and looking to continue to do so. Ive got tags for my gear but because most of the machines get greasy and hot I think over time they will fall off.
Am looking at a few other ideas myself that could provide improved security though am sure there are counter measures still looking to get some almax chains as they seem to be the best, anyone tried them?
  • It might seem like a lot of trouble but when im away for a few days like the 10 days I was on holiday earlier this month I screw the tyre valves out of the van, trailer, ride on mower, tractor etc and leave them all sitting with flat tyres. They are all locked in 1 big shed beside my house too with a dog, security lights, bars on windows, alarm and 3 separate locks on the door too. 15 mins screws the valves in and blows all the tyres up when I get home, might seem like a lot of bother to some people but it would make especially the van and trailer hard to steal.

  • I take at least one wheel off trailer when its not in use, its a pain in the ass but at least I know it'll be there when I get home

Just a thought guys but might be better this being in the hub and not out for all to see as all your doing is posting extra info of what someone would need to be off with your stuff.

first rule of security is dont broadcast it
