Ive used Stihl FS40/FS50 for years, never had any problems with them, apart from maybe a bit too much vibration during prolonged uses.
Tanaka is a superb wee machine. At this size range they make the best machines in my opinion. My 230 has been neglected and starts up and never misses a beat despite a couple years of ignorant use so far.
Our Stihl FS45 is still plugging away 4 years down the line!
i run a Stihl FS40 and FS38 never any problems would recomend
So everyone except Dan are happy to continue with Stihl, despite many people suffering breakdowns and parts supply being a bit hit and miss, especially the last year or two?
I honestly thought more people would be recommending a shift to another manufacturer, given the apparent drop in build quality from Stihl, and their constant decision not to engage with there users via this and other forums/websites!
Have to say the Stihl kit i own has been fine so far, but that doesnt mean i would blindly continue to buy it when little seems to be improving!
One other thought would be to buy the smallest engine and use the existing Stihl heads?
I agree about the 130 being too powerful for delicate work, but you've already got the other bits. You'd also have a spare machine if the bigger one breaks down, so you'd be able to use the other heads whilst it's being repaired. Easier to carry around than another full-sized strimmer as well.
I really wouldn't expect Stihl to engage with banter/comments on a forum or website...... I very much doubt if any other volume manufacturer would either. Like you, I've had no problems with my Stihl equipment, some of which has had heavy use over many years. Even the strimmer with its 4-mix engine has proved extremely reliable. On the odd occasion I've ordered a spare part, its arrived in days. Prices?...... for what you get, I reckon they're very reasonable. True, they're twice the price of the cheap "far eastern" stuff but thats if you compare using the Stihl topend models....the Stihl budget models are similarly priced. You will gather I'm a Stihl fan lol!!
