me and my dad always have a sort out every few months and try to arrange our vans neatly, but within a few weeks there a mess again lol, new van soon hopefully will kit it out nicely,
pictures of kitted out vans guys ? :) mine will be on in a week or so once ive got it lol
Mine stays exactly how it is supposed to be. This way I know if I have left any tools on site because there is a gap, plus I save a lot of time trying to find things if they are right to hand where they are meant to be.
Just done the new van, but still have to paint the floor and put up one long shelf along the driver's side. I'll put up photos once that's done.

Permalink Reply by James @ KentGardening on February 6, 2012 at 13:58 Hey guys. I've often thought that racking out my Citroen berlingo would be a good idea from a tidiness and efficiency perspective. But given that currently I can go from tree work on day, requiring climbing kit etc, to mowing the next or weeding / border maintenance the next I have often thought it would limit the back of the van. I guess once i get my workshop built, long story which is awaiting funds, it may be easier to have some racks or something. Would be interested in seeing some pics of others solutions to the problem? :-)
Permalink Reply by corey hansford on February 6, 2012 at 14:13 would be great to see pictures off your vans, and yeah but maybe if it was kitted out for all off your jobs then it would be handy, but its room as only a small van arnt they ? :)
Something like a berlingo is not able to be loaded up for that range of tasks and left; you simply have to accept you'll be shifting gear about a lot.
Most of us use secure storage I imagine; I unload the machines into it at the end of each day. Vans are easy to break into and it's not worth leaving anything in them.
Supermarket crates are handy for keeping the kinds of objects that need to be swapped around regularly in, plus they stack very well.
Permalink Reply by corey hansford on February 6, 2012 at 15:43 thats the problem ive got a small fiat at the moment but its not very roomy apart from height, so having a dispatch soon :) next size up so can sort it all out as i only do maintenance gardening so easy enough to kit out :), hoping to ply it all and make some shelving and storage and brackets to hang things up :D
Permalink Reply by James @ KentGardening on February 6, 2012 at 16:16 Length is another consideration for my van at the moment too, since its ex british gas it came with a very nice and secure full metal bulkhead... great apart from the rear length is a problem - considered cutting a whole in it but since ive found a telescopic silky pruner which can fit i doubt i will now - maybe just cut off 2" off my big broom handle lol
Currently it has a heavy duty plastic lining to the sides but im thinking of ply lining it and wonder if anyone has any experiences of those on fleebay (ebay) ??

Bought some prebuilt racking from these guys recently modularvanshelving.co.uk well made and reasonable price when you take into account the time and materials involved in doing yourself from scratch. Believe they also do ply lining kits.

I have an ex British Gas Kangoo, like yours it has a very good bulkhead which has compartments in, which is good for small stuff and 2-stroke oil etc, but like you say it limits the length,
I can just get my small mower in without folding the handles, The big honda has to have the handles folded so that normally goes in the trailer, My strimmer has to go diagonally across the van which is a pain in the arse because i have to take it out to get other stuff out.
I have hooks on the side wall which hold my spade, rakes pole pruner and brushes, I have my fold up ladders on the other side, my toolbox near the side door so it is easy to get to,
It's all a bit of a squeeze. Want a bigger van this year,,,,, please!!

Permalink Reply by corey hansford on February 6, 2012 at 18:48 excactly like my old kangoo, really did my head in getting my folded ladders out the corner as had to take basically everything out my van lol, and also my cable snapped on door so had to kick the bulkhead through, oh happy days lol

Hi Corey - I have a Transit long wheel base, semi high roof - I physically couldn't do the jobs I do with a smaller van. I started in business with a Nissan Vannette - it was quickly proved too small, slow and noisy and I ended up towing a trailer 5 days a week which got quite annoying.
My solution to the internal space was as per the pictures below - everything has its space, nothing gets left behind and nothing gets broken or damaged. Nothing gets chucked in, wet day or otherwise. Plus I need the Transits high gross train weight for towing my big trailer...
Front part of van:
Rear part of van:
I honestly don't know how I managed with a smaller van!
