  • Thank's that what I thought, I've only done them in autumn and spring for myself and family and did some repairing early summer but will advise to delay.

Got one booked in for middle of next month. I'll see if the weather goes back to the norm. If not I'll ask the customer to hold off.
  • I would definitely hold off, I have got to have a look at a job this weekend, I hope he is not wanting it done soon! ATM as the ground is so hard and dry even if the customer watered it religiously it could still die. Definitely wait until the weather cools down and we have had some proper rain.
  • Yes, definitely. A hosepipe ban starts tomorrow in my area (Friday 9th). Just hope that the lawns i've done will be ok. You can't expect customers to water lawns with a watering can - its enough of a job to get them to keep on top of watering with a hose/sprinkler.
  • When we do turf gardens I always leave sprinklers for the customer to use, I spike it in the ground and say 1 hour per sprinkler, they love it if they are on a meter! But it may die otherwise, I also usualy give them a leaflet on how to cair for your new lawn.

  • Yes, yes a thousand times yes. Clients never water their lawn enough in ideal conditions, in this weather the lawn stands no chance. There's also the problem with scorching and the root system is just not developed enough to off set transpiration loss.
  • Oooh, good luck with that! :)

got one going down next week...... :|
  • According to United Utilities commercial landscapers are able to water in new turf and plantings but cannot water a domestic garden in any other situation. Domestic customers cannot use a hose pipe for anything. Therefore we're with Stuart on this one - see it as an opportunity!

Hose pipe ban does not include landscape professionals, according to your local press and LJN. How about adding into the cost an hour or so (depending on size) of visits per day for next fortnight to water?
Obviously you have included a first cut in this job too?
