    HI Darren

no this looks like the bolt holding on the 2nd tension pully has come un-done.

remove blade / blade cover then you will see the tension system for the vari belt (if looking up into the machine towards transmission this will be on the left side)

you can get the parts list from www.etesia.co.uk and look under the resource page on walkbehind mower parts

this will give you a parts breakdown of the machine and will make more sense to you with machine there on how this will go back together

it could be super simple job of just bolt lose so about 1.5 hours to sort or it could be a little more sinnister which would be plate damaged aswell and belt replacment so with fiddleing of a first timer in the guts of this machine i would ut asside at least 3 hours to give your self time to work through it slowly as you dont want to have to pull it appart again because the belt is on wrong or you have the lovley spare bolt that were sure is not important until you hear the ping

im here if you need any other info or advise and on the phone aswell 01295 680120

Thanks Neil, it was 8:40pm last night and I was going to start stripping it but I thought better. Got caught out too many times when I had my old land rover. Messing about in the dark is never a good idea :-)

Will leave it until the weekend. I do have the nut, a plate/big washer and what I think is a spacer. It fell off Tuesday afternoon but one of my guys said it was still working ok so carried on! Lots of metal filings everywhere which I think are off the pulley.

Thanks for the time estimates, I'll let you know how I get on.

i know your pain on the landy front (i have a new head + gasket & new rad to fit this weekend to my d1 300tdi, joys of a landy owner)

it sounds like you have all the bits that have come off so more a case of now seeing if damage has been done to the plate or if its just a put back together thing

if you get stuck then send me an email on the technical@etesia.co.uk which i get on the work mobile and will try my best to help where i can

    regards neal

Before I bought my Landy (which was 26 years old) I thought they were so well built they went on forever. The reality is they break down often but are easy to fix :-)

Also, should this have free play? Connected to the gearbox I think. Seems to be spring loaded but there is still movement.

Hi Darren, my landy is a toy first and family carrier next on outings for the 7 seats, found out sat that the head was not the only thing but a melted piston aswell so my quick 1 day job is now engine out etc all good fun though.

yes the screew in the second pic is there as a buffer for the transmission so should have play. the spring on it allows the box to tilt forwerd & back without full free movement (like your shocks on vechical suspension)

the first pic says also that yes you need new pulley etc, not end of the world pricing though on these and once done (with new belt fitted aswell) the machine will run on for years again

  • Sorry to Hijack the thread.

On my PHTB The speed control has started to revert back to the slowest se4tting about 2 seconds after its set to fastest... Is this a straight forward repair and is their a part I need to order for it? I have not yet dismantled the assembly as I need the mower for this very wet week!

    Hi David

this could be 1 of a couple of things

cable needs to be replaced or adjusted as it could be holding the drive just about in top speed then slips back

variator pully could be worn on spring etc so the pully is slipping back to its slower setting

linkage could be jammed or belt needs replacing

or another shim needed inside the transmission or the roller pads in there need replacing.

most commen is the cable david and would be the first thing to check this is moving free with no binding etc

    regards
