Breathable polo shirts

Hey everyone, has anyone come across any hard wearing but breathable polo shirts? I have always used englebert strauss as they are good quality and the colours never seem to fade but my guys are sweating buckets! Strauss have brought out a 'breathable' polo shirt but it looks like it would get snagged very easily and doesn't have as professional a look as normal polos as it's rather shiny! It's 100% polyester so I've had a look at others of this type but they all look the same like they will get snagged.

Any ideas? Has anyone found any that they can recommend? It seems to be the neckline that's actually bothering them the most but we definitely need polos and not T-shirts!

Thanks :)

  • I use greentime clothing for my polo's,

    Rob

  • 100% only cotton is best.

  • Yeah the ones we already have are 100% cotton which are the ones that are too hot unfortunately.

  • I get my clothing branded with my logo from workwear express. The have a huge range of polo shirts.I usually wear the cotton ones but have been using the breathable ones lately they do snag but are cheap enough to replace have a look on there website

  • It would surprise me if polyester snags worse than other materials, however it looks. Unless very flimsily made. Have you tried looking for a polyester-wool mix? Both are "wicking" materials and the wool should add some strength and some wear length.

If there is a "Go Outdoors" or similar outdoor gear retailer near you, pop in and have a look for some ideas. Or take a look on the Go OUtdoors web site.

Cotton does not wick. When you sweat, you stay wet.

  • Yeah I think the ones I was looking at are wicking ones but they are very shiny like...erm...a running top, which is why I think they would snag as everything I have ever had like that catches on the tiniest of things and with my guys climbing around in thorny bushes it's a bit of a worry. I agree Ross that some of the tops are cheap enough to replace...but not once I have my branding on them and they are being replaced daily :(

I had a look in go outdoors last time we were scouting out uniforms but I shall take another look as that was a while ago!

Thanks guys, anyone found any one particular brand that has worked well for them? Gikdan, fruit of the loom, snickers, hanes....?

    you could try bamboo clothing

    soft
    wicking
    breathable
    longlasting
    natural material
does not smell like plastic products can

    https://www.bambooclothing.co.uk/

Moisture Wicking BAM fabric is highly absorbent, 3-4 times more so than cotton, pulling moisture away from your body. This moisture then evaporates, keeping you more comfortable.
    Climate Control

BAM garments are highly breathable, so are cool in the heat, yet very warm in the cold becuase of their cellulosic structure, trapping warm air when required.

    Anti Bacterial

BAM fabric naturally disposes, and inhibits growth, of bacteria, which is what makes some other performance clothing smell. Best in class, according to feedback.

    Ultra Soft

BAM clothing is incredibly soft and comfortable because of its smooth microstructure. BAM is the first and still the softest bamboo clothing.

    Eco Friendly

BAM clothing is highly eco friendly due to the growth patterns of bamboo, especially compared to other man made performance fabrics and regular cotton. This comes in 3 key areas:

    1. Natural non polluting growth: Bamboo is 100% naturally grown, without using any pesticides or fertilizers. It's not oil based like most performance fabrics.

    2. No extra water required: The water required for growing bamboo is minute, mainly just from what falls as rain.

    3. Space efficient: The yield (i.e. the amount of product) you get from an acre of bamboo is 10 times greater than the yeild you get from, say, cotton. In an age where land use is under enormous pressure this is huge.
  • No worries! Wicken all the way. Huge hedge to cut....do it one go.......sweat, and sweat.......sweat.........

Five minutes later and you're dry. Our guys LOVE walking under sprinklers set up across grounds at the moment; they know they'll get wet (= refreshingly cool) and be dry again in less that five minutes.

Wicken all the way: this business decks itself out noticeably.......all wicken, all happy round here!

Bring on the temperatures.........we're cucumber cool :->

    Cheers, Eugene

  • My experience with bamboo clothing (socks) is they take a huge amount of time to dry and when they are wet they are far from breathable. I have multiple pairs of bamboo socks that will take 2days+ to dry on the line on a warm day. Alternative is to tumble dry but then not so economic friendly.
  • In fact.....my Avatar gives the game away! PS......I'm the one on the left :->
