Atco can be a good machine for large, flat areas of decent grass, not really an everyday mower, more something for the big formal lawns, especially as they are so heavy - I sold a 30" one once and they guy was quick shocked at the weight when he came to pick it up!
Don't know if you are familiar with adjusting cylinder machines, but keep the cylinder set against the bottom blade till it will cut a sheet of normal paper cleanly. Used machine may need the cylinder and bottom blade grinding 'true' by a mower machine shop.
Other than that, its just a case of keeping engine serviced and all the various chains and cables in correct tension.
As regards your trailed seat, I know they are very expensive new, but there are often some on Ebay, just checked and there's at least two on there now - generally don't make more than £100 - just check the front bar is the correct size for your machine as there are lots of variations in these Atco's.
I've trialed one but didnt buy - exactally as adam said, but beware they are not tollerant of anything but the most perfect level lawn - for me that was the killer - Most lawns are just not of a goodenough grade or quality to cut with one!
also the weight - you need good ramps for it as they do weight alot - In the end I only have 3 lawns suitable for it so decided no.
I too only have 3 lawns that are good enough.
However i have a school contract for next year and it will be perfect for the front. And as a back up for the football pitch should the gang mower go bang!
I know it would take a long time to cut a football pitch with it hence wanting a seat but it would do the job if anything went wrong.
As for the weight it's bloody heavy as I found out taking off the truck on my own last night!
But it will be going in the trailer which has a drop down ramp on the back so it will drive it's self up!
