I'm jointing the walls of my pool house today and I want to show the traditional method used here in France.

There are varying techniques and also styles but essentially, a Renocal (white cement and lime) is mixed with a course yellow sand to form a very fluid slurry.

I'm using a 3:1 ration of sand to Renocal and when it's dry, the walls will take on a very bright appearance.

We live on top of a white limestone so this method is traditional for this region.

I don't like to completely cover the stone so I brush back using a stiff (but not too course) nylon scrubbing brush.

The idea is to keep brushing until there is the right amount of stone visible but the joints are filled - this will stabilise the stone and waterproof the wall too.
