Can anyone advise the best way to either get rid or minimise height of 30ft tree a contorted salix, can i just chop it back? It is only 6t away from house will its roots cause any problems for house foundations? I am chainsaw trained, part of me dosent wont to kill it, but i will if detrementral to house, many thanks

30' sounds as though it's at the limit anyhow so a prune is in order.

If there are any identifiable large upward growing stems that can be removed to a growing point then this would be my first instinct.

I agree with Colin here...a gradual thinning rather than reduction of stems (chopping off stems only produces a cluster of ugly growth; or die-back as Colin says).
