Our neighbour has recently removed all the mature screening that existed on his side of the fence that borders our properties. Consequently, we not only see into his garden but also across it to other gardens and bedrooms. Not only has the privacy been removed but all the shade for the border on our side has gone too, so that has dramatically changed the amount of light on the shrubs it contains and the border needs to be redesigned. Drastic action is called for in order to restore the privacy screening but we can't decide between hedging or trees, or a combination of both.
Laurel, hornbeam, beach, prunus lausitanica are on the shortlist, but obviously costs increase rapidly with the size of the shrubs we might buy.
