BALI Chairman Helps Greenfingers Charity Celebrate Ten Years
Chairman of the British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI), Richard Gardiner, will be helping Greenfingers to raise money and celebrate ten years of creating magical gardens for children’s hospices when he undertakes a sponsored cycle ride this July.
He will be taking a holiday from his own landscape business Norris & Gardiner, to cycle 245 miles over 6 days, visiting seven hospice gardens trying to raise funds for the charity. Greenfingers has already installed 27 gardens at children’s hospices throughout the UK but there are at least seven more hospices needing new or improved gardens.
Richard is hoping to raise £2000 from his bike ride and is encouraging people either to sponsor him (www.justgiving.com/richardgardinerbali). Additionally a dozen other cyclists are joining him for the last leg of the marathon.
Richard Gardiner said:
“I am delighted to be involved in fundraising for Greenfingers. Together with a number of my colleagues in BALI, I was closely involved as a volunteer with the construction of the Meadow Garden at Chestnut Tree in Arundel and heard so many inspiring stories of how beneficial a garden at a children’s hospice can be. So I want to do as much as I can to raise funds that allow gardens to be built at other hospices around the country. I hope everyone from the landscape industry will get behind me and sponsor me”
Gardens at children’s hospices can be a vital part of the care provided by the hospice to the child or their family and siblings. Richard Jackson, TV presenter and journalist, Chairman of Greenfingers says:
“Children, together with their families and siblings love our gardens because they make a real difference to the quality of their lives and the time they spend together…. either at play, or in calm privacy surrounded by nature.”
Starting off from East Anglia Children’s Hospice in Milton on Tuesday 21st July, Richard Gardiner will cycle to Keech Cottage in Luton and then on Wed 22nd July onto Helen & Douglas House Hospice in Oxford. He then will ride from there to Shooting Star Hospice in Hampton, Middlesex, before moving onto Richard House in Barking, East London. Leaving from here on Friday 24th July, he will cycle to Christopher’s House in Guildford and then finally arriving at Chestnut Tree Hospice in Arundel on Sunday 26th July.
You can sponsor Richard by visiting his Just Giving page at: www.justgiving.com/richardgardinerbali or if you want to accompany him on the last leg of his ride, contact him at richard@norg.co.uk
