Philip has just posted something about SoMe and how I am apparently a prolific tweep! Funny how people see you - I personally don't think I tweet a lot, but then I do it for my work, so it's part of my marketing tool box. I guess if something works then you do it.
I've been tweeting/blogging and sending an e-news now for 12 months or so. I embraced the whole social media revolution and decided to give it a go for 2 years and see what happens. It's been a busy road! Busy, manic, hair tearing and frantic at times....but with detached unemotional analysis it has been the best thing I have ever done. Why? Because for me it works = it bring traffic to my website, it has given me exposure through well known names in my industry and national coverage too, I have found new contractors, new suppliers, learnt new things and found new friends...and I have got work out of it.
I feel very proud of myself to have grabbed this wholeheartedly especially as I am past the digi media savvy generation! Rather chuffed too that I was an early adopter - and that it works, for me.
Some people still come up to me and ask me to 'convince' them that SoMe and twitter is worth a try- my answer? If you have a business strategy and know what you want, then put in a place a SoMe strategy and go for it. Look and learn - it's the best way. But don't ask me to convince you - especially when most people are rather mocking. I have too much work to be getting on with and definitely no time for people who won't even give it a try . And no tweeting is not about making cups of tea and sharing the info! It's about being social, sharing and engaging with like-minded people. When people get to know you they usually visit your website, then they enquire, then they buy your service/product - that's my experience of twitter :)
