What is the best product to use to control weeds in my lawn or grassed area?

Many people experience the frustration of having their lawn invaded by weeds, there may be just one dandelion to start with, but let it flower and seed and there will soon be a hundred!

So what can be done about this?

Firstly do NOT make the mistake that many people do and think 'I'll dribble some Roundup on that....' - works a treat at killing the weed but also kills the grass meaning you end up with lots of…

Lawn scarifying for moss and thatch control, why, when and how it should be done properly...

If you are reading this blog post, you may be asking yourself some or all of the following questions:

WHY should I scarify my lawn?

Lawns benefit from regular scarifying in order to remove and control the build up of moss and 'thatch'. 'Thatch' is the build up of dead grass, partly rotted leaves and debris that builds up in a lawn over time.

Both moss and thatch restrict…

Bringing Lincolnshire lawns back to life with professional mowing and lawn care services....

On the very day that official drought was declared in Lincolnshire, the heavens finally opened - indeed there was half an inch of hailstones in parts of Spalding and Pinchbeck.

Everyone's lawn badly needed this water, and indeed at the time of writing (Sunday 12th June), it has been persistently drizzling for the last 5 hours. Most, if not all lawns were showing signs of stress, with patchy, uneven growth, die back and yellow patches, weeds and other unsightly…

bugs & beasties

Early this year I noticed blackfly feasting on my lovely Cardoons... I thought about spraying with an organic spray (after the bees have gone to bed of course!) and then noticed that among the blackfly there were some ladybird larvae and realised the spray would kill them too. So I decided on a 'rebranding' exercise: I'd see if I could look at this as a 'ladybird breeding programme' rather than a 'blackfly problem', and leave them alone to see what would happen. The Cardoons are in an area… Continue

Trees root barriers and foundations

Roots of trees is actually very interesting issue as it is hiding- underground - most people do not know much about- till the roots effect something else.... or in a rare case when transplanting trees.

In General there is a ratio between the size of canopy and the roots, So Different species of trees got different ratio. So stopping the roots from growing will will keep the tree smaller- like the principles in bonsai.

Trees… Continue

Slugs and Snail control

This year there is set to be yet another plague of slugs and snails. The weather conditions are somewhat to blame for the huge increase in the last two years. But this is only one factor in the reason for the continuing population boom of the gardeners worst enemy.

To further misery to traditional gardeners, slug pellets will inevitably be banned fairly soon. The damage they cause to other fauna is just too great. After the anti EU headlines have abated after the ban, it will be time… Continue
