Trees and the urban environment
Local authorities are still the biggest purchaser of trees for the urban environment. Many people felt the economic squeeze would affect their purchasing power,in fact it has changed the way they buy trees, instead of ordering trees with a girth of 20-25cm they are now ordering 16-18cm.

Last nights Panorama program on Supermarket domination did not focus, as so many other media reports have, on simply the taste, price and animal welfare aspects of supply and demand together with our unsuppressed appetite for supermarkets; but contained a lot of information with regards the actual damage this domination is causing on the countryside, and those who maintain the countryside and the landscape in…

Garden supplier - Ever thought about using affiliates?
This post is about how to use affiliates to increase your online sales.
An affiliate is somebody who will advertise your products or services via their marketing channel, such as a blog or website. The best thing about using affiliates, they only get paid a certain percentage if they
generate a sale or lead. Also affiliates are responsible for their own
marketing costs.
Affiliate marketing is also another way of getting your brand out to…

The Glastonbury wounded holy thorn tree has hit the headlines throughout the world recently.
Glastonbury is a wonderfully strange old place. Legend has it that Joseph of Arimathea arrived here with twelve disciples. Standing on Wearyall Hill, he struck his staff into the ground and it took root and grew the branch and blossom of a hawthorn tree. Cuttings have been grafted through the ages to perpetuate its life.…

Yes it is mad! Our dinning table is full of plastic crumbs... I should say recycled plastic crumbs.... the living room looks more or less like a factory..... Oh ... Actually in the middle now... I was cutting 2000 samples of the material that we made Lawn edging, root barriers and any shape raised beds. So 2000 more to cut as I need 4000…

The UK landscape and woodland suffer significant losses of environmentally and ecologically important species every Christmas time.
The demise of the female Holly tree is relatively well documented but this does not stop continuing damage by way of removing berry bearing foliage to decorate homes over the Christmas period. Well the day started well. I had a blissful time bagging free tulip bulbs. The boot of the car is weighed down with about a thousand tulips.
This evening, my favourite farmer, whose field I use, says I have to quit it ASAP as his land agent takes a dim view of me using it. Apprently it counts as subletting, even though no money changes hands. He cannot risk his tenancy, Somerset County council would love any excuse to sell another county farm.
I have to rehome…

Marshalls Awards 2010 (North West Region)
On Thursday 9th December 2010, we attended the Marshalls Regional Award Ceremony/Roadshow.
We were nominees in five different categories, bringing one award away for 'Best Use of Ethically Sourced Fairstone' which we were really chuffed about.
We have spent the last two years trying out different patio paving layouts and were rewarded for our endeavours.
We thoroughly enjoyed the roadshow and look forward to a prosperous 2011.
