I cant finish my adventure story today as I have to visit the Doc this afternoon, to see if there is any work left in me.Looking through some of the messages I received last week to which I didn't reply because I didn't know how, I found a question from Rowly Hill about the rabbits. My Reply

I didn't kill them, I delivered them live to a packing station in Lincolnshire, where they weighed & payed 2 shillings a pound. The rabbits weighed 5 lb, this firm also sold pellets…

Eric Walkers adventures continued in Canada 1954

The work on the section consisted of changing the odd sleeper & burying stones. The ballast in this area consisted of sand. As it was dug from the ground there were stones in it which we buried in a hole we dug & then filled in. We couldn't understand the reason for this as we would have just thrown them down the bank. When we set off in the morning we always headed west as the station where we all lived was at the eastern end of our length. There are level crossings all the way across… Continue

Continuing My Story 1954

After 3 days working at Grand Coulee we moved 18 miles east of Regina to Balgonie were we started again. We had Sunday off & we were sat next to this big rough pock marked Canadian

He enquired were we came from & told us about his time in Scotland in the army during the war, apparently he met this police sergeants wife who made a fuss of him, he said he loved the pubs & wished he could return. He had been married but…

Continuing My Story

We drove out of New York on the bus & pulled up at a roadside restaurant ,.When we got inside it was exactly as we had seen it in countless films, spotlessly clean with tissues & a glass of water on the tables along with a device where you put a coin in & selected a record which you could see being selected & played in the jukebox.
We picked something hot from the long menu & within seconds we received a glass of orange juice & shortly after the meal which was very…

Grow your own fruit

In an ideal World I am sure everyone would have a mini orchard, grapevine and strawberry

patch in their back garden. Unfortunately many of us do not live in this

figurative ‘ideal World’, but that does not mean that you have to forego growing

your own fresh fruit. Any size garden can accommodate a small crop of delicious

fresh fruit and now is the time to start planning your fruit of choice and the

best way to…

An Example of very poor PR - How the Environment Agency cannot safe the world by their own.

Today was the Environment Agency's big Environment 10 conference, still ongoing, (check out the self congratulatory tweet feed). Their use of of catchphrases such as 'Creating a Better Place' may well stick in the throat of many Cornish and other people who have been affected by recent flooding. Recent EA PR states that finally the EA are helping to fund riparian woodland to ease water run off… Continue
