As well as sculpture in hard and natural landscapes and functional objects for parks and private houses I have made and exhibited sculpture since around 1980!

After large public projects it is inspiring to work on a smaller scale for private clients. This was a medium scale piece of work for a person who had strong and clear ideas about what she wanted.

The Circle was one of three sculptures I made for locations on the top of the 300ft high Huntcliff just south of Saltburn. Part of a series of Milestone Commissions instigated by Common Ground to celebrate 'local distinctiveness' and project managed by Steve Chettle of ArtsUK it epitomises what can happen when a piece of sculpture becomes part of a place and a unique landmark.

The outline sketches for the long sinuous bench at Richmond Park were drawn by Jane Fowles then of LUC (Land Use Consultants).Collaborating with her on the designs I developed and made the seat finally delivering it on site in its galvanised and painted state. She also designed the hard landscaping there and in another area nearer Pembroke Lodge where I made three steel and oak benches.
The 'estate railings' visible in the background of the photographs were also mader at my workshop…
