Do you live near the coast? We have the same problem, they seem to lie in ivy so we got rid of it and it seemed to help a little. This is the first year I have seen them

We use abbey which is free business banking and have never really had any problems. Since last year we have been using the post less and less sending invoices via email and being paid via bacs works a treat.

Hi Martin and welcome to our network.

I do hope that you find it useful and an advantage.
It is still early days but as the network grows and members with different experiences join, I am sure we can all benefit.

Good luck with your business - after four years, I think you must be succeeding :)

Hi There Martin.

I have just looked at your 'About Me' and it looks as though we are almost identical in customer base, location (Seaside) - I am in the Margate/Ramsgate area, age and time in business.
My customers range from housing estates to small gardens for the elderly, I started my business in Nov 2005 and have grown from a one man band to having 1 full time employed, 1 full time casual (I have explained that Winter maybe awkward) and 1, 2days a week man.
I think my turnover will be around 40-45k this year and have grown steadily, and also learning how to manage my business and the months go on.
I was wondering due to similar identities of our business's if you would be happy to share business ideas, ie how you do your accounts, how you market, how you motivate yourself, money saving idea's...good customer practice, etc.

I hope I can share some pretty good ideas with you...is this something you would be interested in? as I am always looking to streamline my business, and I have made a few mistakes too. The majority of the gardeners around here are Summer Gardeners, or Landscapers, so I do not have anyone to really discuss with.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Best Wishes

How did you find the calendar - was it useful?

Many thanks Martin. I will include those tasks, but I am very sure that I had thought of those, maybe they have made a trip into the warmer climbs of March, but I will definately add, because I found that the sources that I retrieved this information from overlapped on many of the tasks.......I did a bad thing yesterday...I accidently pruned back a Cherry...exactly what my list told me not to do, ironic really. What do you think will be the consequences? By the way, I have kind of got a good scheduling/accounting system going, if you are still interested. You might have that side of things wrapped up but I found that when you have 40+ customers on your books, management is a tough thing.

Hi Martin,

You rate the Lawnflight pro and I am now toying with getting one. Can you tell me what the stripes look like if using the mulching option? I would assume that you would only mulch when the sward is fairly low and in dry conditions?
Many thanks

Thanks Martin.

I think I will try one out before buying. I like the idea having the mulch option.

The John Deere R54RKB is a nice mower but heavy however it has a brilliant drive. Only down side is that the Hayter 56 produces a nicer finish if the cutting conditions are spot on but too many drive and collection issues to consider spending that kind of money. Now if only Stihl would make a lawn mower other than their Viking range that would be something :-)
