About your business
MANAGEMENT AND MAINTENANCE OF GROUNDS AND GARDENS

The Garden Service (Manchester) Limited is an owner-managed grounds and garden maintenance contractor providing professional high quality grounds and garden maintenance across Greater Manchester and Northern Cheshire. Established spring 2005 the main focus was the high-end domestic market, but through invitations for commercial work by existing customers there was a shift towards business premises maintenance and larger residential estates.

The pride we take in our aesthetic approach to groundcare, attention to detail and the quality of service that our clients consistently receive is fed through our current portfolio of sixty plus developments dotted over south Manchester and the surrounding areas. These developments range from small blocks of flats or retail outlets to estates with extensive formal grounds.

We have a reputation for reliability and quality and enjoy longstanding relationships with many housing associations, management companies and private businesses. We always maintain strong relationships and good communication with our clients, something we hold very highly.

Our various service option packages cater for all requirements, from basic maintenance to blue chip business premises that need pristine presentation. Service call frequencies are dependent on the client's requirements and budget. Our written maintenance agreements are detailed so the level of service and any specific requirements are understood from the outset and initially run for a period of one year, renewable annually. Our heavy investment in high quality machinery and tools for an efficient, safe and superior finish, gives confidence to our teams and is illustrated in the standards we consistently maintain.

All staff are trained and qualified to CITB CSCS Health & Safety standards, CPCS trained plant operators & City & Guilds NPTC qualified in herbicide application. NVQ level II (or higher) Amenity Horticulture and Lantra level in machinery operation.

We are a SAFEContractor accredited company, a programme which recognises very high standards of health and safety practise amongst UK contractors.

At each maintenance visit:
• Lawns are mowed leaving formal stripes
• Lawn edges are well defined and manicured
• Shrubs are maintained - pruned by species for maximum foliage/flower presentation and plant vigour
• Hedges are trimmed as required by type/location
• Borders are maintained, weeding, hoeing and pruning as necessary
• Litter collected
• Hard-standing and bin areas swept to remove debris, leaves, grit build up etc
• Hard-standing, block paving, patios and driveways treated as necessary to combat and prevent weed, moss and algal growth
• Green waste removed from site and composted at a local farm
As necessary we also carry out:
• Lawn care: feeding (liquid & granular fertilisers), pest control (weeds & moss), scarification and aeration
• Restorative pruning of hedges and shrubs
• Tree care (Cert. Arb, RFS, Mem SWA), felling and clearing
• Brush cutting
• Turfing / reseeding
• Landscape planting

We currently manage estates in the following areas: Withington, West Didsbury, Old Trafford, Brinnington, Heaton Mersey, Heaton Chapel, Heaton Moor, Sale, Brooklands, Manchester City Centre, Didsbury, Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Mobberley, Hale, Hale Barns, Bowden, Altrincham, Bramhall, Cheadle Hulme, Cheadle, Chorlton, Levenshulme, Burnage, Salford Quays, Adswood, Ladybarn, Fallowfield, Hulme, Timperley, Stockport, Whalley Range, Davenport, Baguley.

She has been very impressed with the 'professionalism and high quality of work' your team have been delivering and wanted you to know this. Obviously, it always reflects well on us when leaseholders are complimentary of the contractors we have appointed – so thank you very much..."

Hi Alasdair - rather then Email I will quickly dump my views here but let me know if you need more info.
The John Deere R54RKB is a nice mower but heavy however it has a brilliant drive. I would only suggest getting one if you have a few lawns to mow each day. Does well collecting in the wet but I keep going back to the old Hayter 56 - if you can get hold of a good second hand one it will be a wise investment. For some reason the JD just doesn't do it for me. The controls take a bit of getting use to but it is just something that I can't put my finger on. Would suggest contacting a JD dealer and asking for a loan machine to test out.
