Dear Frank I think that it is very important to look at your client base and also if you really want to be cutting wet grass too, I know that sometimes that you cannot get away with this but taking the mower a little higher will reduce clogging. It…

Hello Rhonda. I decided to purchase a van straight off for my business. The answer depends purely on the type of work you are looking to do and the amount of waste you are thinking to produce and of course how you dispose of it. I initially went ar…

I've recently used MO Bacter on a lawn for the first time - an organic slow release lawn feed with moss killer. The lawn certainly looks lush, too early to report on the moss killing yet though. http://www.djturfcare.co.uk/products/Organic-Fertilis

Regards MMC Pro, I usually find that the drying time is farr quicker than the label if aplied in sun to hard surfaces, more typically an hour maximum. Roundup is an expensive waste of time for moss!!!

Hi, We use MMC Pro as it seems more effective product (and relatively cheap). With regard to Pets, it seems one of the safest on the market but carries the following guidance: "The product is readily biodegradable, PH-neutral, contains no bleac…

Hi Sefton and welcome to the Landscape Juice Network.

I must say, you have kicked off with an interesting question and I am sure we can find an answer between us soon.

Kind regards

Phil

Hi Sefton

Thank you for your kind support and I really hope that your predictions about this site come good.

I am looking to provide what I need myself but most of all, this site needs you professionals, and of course home owners to make it work and I believe that is what is happening.

I know you are limited for time but when you do find it, I will be dlighted to see you around.

All the best

Phil

Sounds like a great idea

Please dont ask for any ideas on accounts as thats the one thing iam useless at :)

But the way we both work the customer and contract work that we do sounds identical in most ways.

Please feel free to ask me anything

Hi There Martin

A little more organised. Can I tell you a little more on how I operate.
Financially, the turnover first six months of each year have increased by 45-50%. I would possibly say that my profit has increased by around 35% each year and would hope to be hitting between 25-35k this year, still have not completed my accounts.

My charges are £12.50ph for businesses and £10ph for private although I am putting my prices up 1 pound for any new custom, and will be doing a blanket rise next year for all those old customers.

I pay my staff between £7 and £7.50 an hour, only for the time that they are working.

Two of these get to jobs in their own vehicles, of which one guy has a trailer, the other really only does weeding for elderly. Two guys do not have transport, so they work with me.

Does your business operate on a similar basis?

Secondly, how ambitious are you? I don't want to rule the world, but I do want to have a very strong, recognised gardening business in my area.

As I say, I am only asking such questions as you appear in a very similar situation to me.

Best Wishes

Sefton Paine

Also Martin. I am trying to streamline my accounting system, as you seem to dislike this side of business. I was previously an analyst in London, so I love it. I am trying to create something simple, comprehensive for guys like us.

thanks for replying to our query on wages. We are paying similar rates. We do pay for breaks / lunch but there are no set times, sometimes there is only a few minutes to eat lunch, it depends on the job. These breaks are taken in the clients time, which they are all ok with. We also pay for any travelling between jobs though if this happens theres usually only amounts to about 15 mins.
