Hello Rob
Just been reading your profile and it seems that you were once a Jim !
I'm just about to start a business in the Leeds/Harrogate area and have decided to go it on my own - though I was seriously considering buying a franchise.
I have looked at a few and they do work, but ultimately I don't want to hand over my hard earned money every month.
Have you found it just as easy to generate business without a major brand (and indeed website) behind you?

I dont do much tree work apart from pruning, and nothing over 5mtrs. I refer them to the Tree monkeys for the stuff that requires it.

Jim's Mowing is a good concept, and in theory should work and it obviously does in Aus. But, the Guy (s) who run it here (both have subsequently been removed as they were so bad) simply run it like the old con franchise way in that they take the ingoing fee, bill you every month, and cant see that they have to do anything more than permit you to have the logo on your van. In the end I and the many others that have left realised that you can just do this yourself and save yourself the monthly fee. It would have been good, imagine if all the local mowing round guys were working together, charging similar high rates, and if one couldnt do it, another could. But, the directors just saw it as a cash cow. S

What made you give up on Jim's as I was under the impression they ran a good operation?
