About Me:
I started out as tree surgeon and qualified with an OND Arb, the three year course included landscaping nursery production and of couse plant knowledge as well as many other related topics.
After leaving college I spent some time working in Germany to gain additional experience.
On returning to England during a bleak economic period, I extended my skill base by moving into garden maintenance and then into landscaping, as well as tree surgery.
It was during this period that I developed a passion for transforming large gardens, and over the next ten years I worked alone in 2 to 3 acre gardens maintaining, designing, developing.
Working with wood and stones and plants, and of course hard landscaping materials.
I am experienced at natural stone walling, after many years of practice.
I now have two employees, and I am still lucky enough to spend all my time working outside in the gardens. We try to be as organic as possible when working in these gardens, and will only resort to the use of chemicals after every possible avenue has been explored, and of course after consulting with the home owner, we would honestly prefer not to use them at all.
We are based in Kingswear in Devon

Honey fungus

www.acegardenservices.co.uk

We started a new garden maintenance contract in a large three/four acre garden a few years ago, during the first autumn we spotted clumps of honey fungus around the base of a large grey poplar, It was growing about 4m away from a rose covered trellis on one side and a shrub bed next to this, a Lonicera nitida hedge runs down the other side, behind the trellis are more flower beds with a large fig tree as a central feat… Continue

Organic Gardens in Devon

Organic gardening,
In simple terms it means to garden without the use of man made chemicals, which means that there are no quick fix artificial feeding regimes or weed killing blitzes.
A holistic attitude is required and an acceptance of things being not quite perfect, or to rephrase it, “Perfect is not right,!” has to be believed.
In order to have an environment working in harmony there has to be a fluctuation of pest damage followed by predatory control from the beneficial insects.
On visiting… Continue

Hi Steve, Apart from the hedge window, in this particular hedge, we have sloped the top of the hedge down to a low point to allow extra light into this area, but at the same time kept the privacy by keeping the ends high.

Haha - John I look forward to meetin you for a pint one of these days...and teaching you some decent patter!! I have SketchUp 7 but I am versed in the skills of other software I've been using which, in my opinion is far more in-depth that SketchUp - although SketchUp has a few features unavailable to mine, but I can import SketchUp objects which is neat.
