Apparently you can hang up a fake wasp nest - it's supposed to drive away wasps, as they are territorial and fear being attacked by wasps in another nest. http://www.waspinator.co.uk/home.html

Insect Bites

After 4 happy years professionally gardening, I was bitten for the first time about a month ago by a wasp. What followed was 5 days off work with my hand doubled in size and very sore and itchy. I was quite spacy due to the strong antihistamine to bring the swelling down and felt quite miserable. I was then stung 12 days later by a honey bee with the same reaction.
