Etesia – coming to a garden near you!

As moss do not produce flowers / seeds they therefore have to reproduce through spores whereas the male plant has to…

What grass seed?

Posted on January 31, 2011 at 12:30 2 Comments

I was asked the other day not to include any Ryegrass when seeding a new lawn in a few months’ time which would basically be used as a child’s play area along with another comment about what grasses I would use for a first rate lawn.

Now common annual ryegrass is often included in turf seed mixtures because it germinates and establishes rapidly.  Ryegrass cultivars are therefore often used for over seeding or as a very high a percentage of the mix where a quick establishment…

Spring lawn mowing height

Posted on January 30, 2011 at 12:23 2 Comments

As the grass starts to grow you will need to start to mow your lawn. It is very important in early spring that you try and minimise causing too much stress to your lawn so for the first few cuts set the mowing height to its highest setting and only mow as and when weather / soil conditions permit.

As the grass grows faster so should the frequency of your mowing and gradually lowering the cutting height of your mower.

Mowing heights are very much based upon…

Hi Graeme

thanks for the invite. You are obviously aware the bulk of my income is derived from lawn mowing and as such I keep a close eye on any developments in the mower market. The problem for me and a few others is they do not produce a roller mower and that is a must. Partly from the customers requirements and my own preference to see the finished article with the classic (British Strips). If they ever produce a roller mower then I would be extremely interested. Once again thank you for the invite and I do appreciate that you wish to make the event a success and from that point I regret that I am unable to support you on this occasion.

Kind Regards
Gordon

I'm afraid not, the last time I visited Plymouth must have been about six years ago. It is that big place on the other side of the big river, and not part of the Shire.

Hi Graeme,
Thanks for the offer, unfortunately we do not work down in Plymouth or anywhere close to it. The holiday traffic makes it a nightmare to get in and out of.
