Do you know your “position in the market place"?

Let’s face it, one of the most difficult and yet important, issue is how much to charge for you service.

Without meaning to sound rude, I don’t want to know or care if you are £7 per hour or £250 per day labour rate – It is doesn’t really matter. It is more important for each of us to have our own pricing strategy. In fact I am a big fan of fixed price work rather than hourly rate but that is going off topic!!

Whilst I am certainly not an expert on this subject and there are many factors that… Continue

They say this job was all about getting closer to nature!

I am up at 6AM six days a week.

Fire up the computer and firstly check the four key Email accounts for any last minute work requests.

I always have a peek at the spam folder in case the filter is over zealous. Thankfully all junk this morning. Funny that the spammers / con artists reckon I have 15 different bank accounts and they have all been compromised and I must log in to reset my password! Oh and they also reckon I have £200Mil waiting for me from various dead relatives and some dear frie… Continue

You get what you pay for

I received a voicemail message at ten past eight this morning from one of my clients asking if I could call them back urgently.

It turned out that they had a “visit” the other day from a gardening company asking if they would like their hedges cut. Now we have previously quoted for this work a few years back but was too expensive as the client likes a bargain so happy to leave it for someone else.

When I turned up at 8:30 it felt like world war three was about to start!

The company was on-sit… Continue

Just another typical day!

It’s nearly 9PM on Friday evening and BGS minor who reminded me she is in fact 14 and not 13 as I have previously stated on one of my previous posts demanded to know if I have booked her flight ticket to the States!

Unfortunately not as it has been a busy day – no time to discuss it as she requires a lift to a party.

These days the normal mode of communication is via MSN, face book, Email or TXT message etc.

So here’s how my day went.

Up at 6AM and double checked the schedules. I’m doing one… Continue

Finding that "niche" in the market place

There have been quite a few postings on the network recently regarding moving the business to the next level and in some cases the work has dried up.

I think we all agree that our industry is very competitive. If we are honest gardening is an easy level of entry into business and with the general downturn in other trades and services we are and will continue to see more one man bands with B&Q mowers in their estate cars.

I don’t want to drum the industry down but the basic stuff is somethi… Continue

Hi Graeme

The lawnflight is quite a heavy mower so the stripes are outstanding with or without the mulch kit.

Last year i only got to use the mulch kit for about a month as the ground was just to wet to use it, but the when i did there was no waste to come away at all.

The lawn does have to be dry and fairly short for it to work but if like i do cut my lawns once a week even twice a week there should be no problems.

The only disadvantage with the mower is that they are heavy and they have a weak drive i think thats down to the weight. I bought my 2nd this year from a local dealer for £780 with mulch kit which was a bargain.

Hope this helps m8 if you need anything else just let me know

cheers

Im like a little seed thats been lying dormant, ive kept busy churning out numerous projects, now weve been recognised for our efforts, im self taught in all aspects, walked away from school with only an A level in art, spent all my life in gardens and now................well watch this space .
Im on fire with drive and passion and i creave exposure so i can really let go, if you send me an email i'll post you back some of my designs, perhaps you could" preach the word" regarding me designing to whom ever wishes to have my creations.

Do you think my site is starting to look professional?? We only accept truthful answers as we love to take heed of negativity in all aspects of our proffesion, its the only way to progress

The system I developed for a company called Oaklands based in Chesham has been operational for some years, currently their system does not schedule as he prefers to do it himself, but it runs all other operations, if you are interested I can download a trial - I have a set up where you request me to come on line and I then log in and can sort out stuff or do on line training.

If you run quick books or some other finance program then all we do is batch the month end results into your accounts as a single entry.

You will need to have a copy of Access 97 as a minimum.

Hi Graeme
Glad that you got one over on the restaurant you were working at. You are right about restaurnts not wanting to pay. My daughters boyfriend does gardening and he had three of them belonging to the same company and they were bad payers and in the end he dropped them all.

Colin.
