As you can see from the date on this photo, I've had my asparagus quite a wee while now.
During a recent mini makeover I decided that my raised vegetable borders and asparagus bed was - at least for the foreseeable future - surplus to requirements.

I literally cut the mound away with my digger's grading bucket and then decided to incorporate this area into a small patch of grass.

I hadn't really considered that the asparagus wasn't going to give up that easy and despite the obvious bashing I'd given it, fresh new spears started to pop up all along the line.

Even after one forgetful moment, when the grass had became particularly long and I chopped down all of the asparagus, bundles of deliciously fresh asparagus have been cut.

Something tells me I should preserve this bed for a while longer and ring-fence the asparagus from the grass.
